Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash Unit Announced
United Kingdom / Republic of Ireland, 10 June, 2008: Canon today announces the latest addition to its EX Speedlite flash unit range, the Speedlite 430EX II. A high-powered compact flash, the Speedlite 430EX II has a guide number of 43 (m/ISO 100 at 105mm) and an inbuilt wide panel to allow coverage suitable for wide angle lenses to 14mm. Replacing the Canon Speedlite 430EX, the Speedlite 430EX II offers fast, silent recycling and full control via the menu system of compatible EOS cameras. It is ideal for both amateurs and professionals seeking a versatile, all-purpose flash.
New features
For maximum flexibility and ease of use, the Speedlite 430EX II incorporates a number of new features. Recycle times have been reduced by approximately 20%, with the recycle process performed silently to minimise distraction. A new metal mounting foot with redesigned connection pins provides ultra-stable communication between the camera and flash; for rapid connection to the camera, a new quick release and locking mechanism is also incorporated. Used in Manual mode, the Speedlite 430EX II offers settings in 1/3 stop increments for increased precision of operation. Plus – when used with compatible EOS cameras – every setting on the Speedlite 430EX II can be controlled via the camera menu system, allowing rapid, intuitive alteration of settings.
System flash
The Speedlite 430EX II is a key component of the integrated flash system for both analogue and digital cameras, and is fully compatible with the distance-linked E-TTL II system found on recent EOS cameras. It can also be used as a slave unit when combined with a master unit in a wireless flash setup.
White balance compensation
Slight variations in a flash gun’s voltage and brightness can destabilise white balance in respective frames during continuous shooting. The Speedlite 430EX II compensates for this by transmitting colour information from the flash to the camera. This information is then used to optimise the white balance setting for each individual image. This function works with the camera set to Auto WB or Flash Mode.
Matching sensor size
When mounted to compatible EOS digital cameras, the Speedlite 430EX II detects whether the sensor is full frame, APS-C or APS-H. The flash’s zoom position is then automatically adjusted, optimising flash coverage and the amount of charge needed per shot.
Fully featured for full control
Other features on the Speedlite 430EX II include 1st and 2nd curtain flash synchronisation, exposure compensation, and an expanded range of nine custom functions.
Accessories
The Speedlite 430EX II can be used with the following optional accessories: the Canon OC-E3 off-camera shoe cord and the Speedlite bracket SB-E2. Featuring a handy quick release/locking mechanism, the OC-E3 adds wired, short-range positioning flexibility to the Speedlite 430EX II. The Speedlite bracket SB-E2 is designed specifically for wedding and press photography and allows the Speedlite 430EX II to be mounted to one side of the camera – removing the harsh, unnatural shadows that can occur to one side of the subject when shooting in portrait orientation with a camera-mounted flash.
Pricing & Availability
The Speedlite 430EX II is available from the end of July 2008 priced at £209.99 / €279.99 RRP inc. VAT.

Canon Pixma IP3500 and IP4500 Printers Announced
Date of announcement: United Kingdom / Republic of Ireland, 20 August, 2007.
Canon today updates its range of PIXMA photo printers with the introduction of the iP4500 and iP3500. Replacing the iP4300 - Europe’s bestselling inkjet printer – the iP4500 employs 1pl droplets for a class-leading resolution of up to 9600x2400dpi. A photo lab quality 10x15cm print takes just 21 seconds, 58 percent faster than its predecessor. The mid-range iP3500 succeeds the iP3300, achieving a photo print speed of 47 seconds. Featuring stylish new designs with a black mirror finish, the two models also introduce new software that enhances image quality during the printing process.
“The iP4500 and iP3500 signal the ongoing evolution of PIXMA,” explained Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging Europe. “By raising performance without raising prices, Canon continues to drive the market for affordable, lab quality home photo printing.”
Pricing and availability

The iP4500 and iP3500 feature:

Single Ink tanks for minimal ink wastage
High quality photo prints in 21 seconds (iP4500) or 47 seconds (iP3500)
Canon’s ChromaLife100 system for prints that last up to 100 years(1)
Advanced media handling – two paper trays, CD/DVD printing(2), auto-duplex(2)
PictBridge support for PC-less photo printing
Easy-PhotoPrint EX software for printing photos, calendars, albums and more
Superior prints at exceptional speeds
Photo quality prints are delivered at higher speeds than before thanks to advances in Canon’s FINE technology. The iP4500 achieves a range-leading speed of just 21 seconds for a 10x15cm borderless photograph. With a maximum resolution of 96001 x2400dpi, it delivers 1pl droplets for ultimate photo lab quality. The iP3500 has a print resolution of 48001x1200dpi, employing ink droplets as small as 2pl to deliver smooth, virtually grain-free results.
To minimise wastage, both models use Canon’s individually replaceable Single Inks. Cyan, magenta and yellow dye inks are used for photos, while a separate black pigment ink ensures crisp, sharp text when printing documents. The iP4500 employs a 5 ink ContrastPLUS system, adding an extra black dye ink for superior contrast in photos. All dye inks support ChromaLife100 when used with Genuine Canon photo paper, ensuring print longevity of up to 100 years for photos stored in an album.
Versatile print options
The iP4500 and iP3500 incorporate a range of features to extend printing options and creative possibilities. The iP3500 supports two-way paper feeding, allowing the user to switch between photo and document print jobs without having to switch paper. The iP4500 adds further convenience with auto-duplex functionality and comes supplied with a DVD/CD tray for printing directly onto compatible discs. PictBridge support on both models enables direct printing of images from compatible digital cameras and camcorders.
Automatic photo correction
Further enhancing print quality, the supplied Easy-PhotoPrint EX software introduces Auto Image Fix – a newly developed feature that automatically corrects common photo flaws prior to printing. The system analyses images using Face Detection and Scene Analysis, then optimises settings such as contrast, tone and saturation. Auto Image Fix is particularly effective at correcting problems with backlit faces or underexposed shots – automatically boosting face tones and brightness for accurate, natural-looking results.

Canon Launches New Lineup of Pixma Photo Printers
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., July 10, 2006 – Need to print out a recipe? Need directions to a friend's house? How about printing out photos taken over the weekend? For whatever your need may be, Canon has the right solution with the introduction of three new single function models, including the Canon PIXMA iP6700D, PIXMA iP6310D and the PIXMA iP1700 Photo Printers.
"From Grandma to the grand kids, our new PIXMA photo printers give consumers with varying printing needs more choices, more features and a better value," said Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer imaging group at Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. "In addition to options, we wanted to offer all our customers a unique cutting edge design that is very much in line with today's tastes and styles."
PIXMA iP6700D Photo Printer
Providing the perfect match to its award-winning digital SLR line-up, Canon introduces the PIXMA iP6700D Photo Printer (estimated selling price $199.99)1 for vibrant, high-quality photo prints. When used in conjunction with the new Canon EOS 30D digital SLR for example, the new, six-color, iP6700D Photo Printer supports the user-friendly Canon-to-Canon Direct Advantage. Connected via PictBridge, the iP6700D printer's Canon-to-Canon connection allows users to brighten faces, print shooting information on a print, or even print a contact sheet with up to 35 images all directly from the camera controls without a PC. The Canon-to-Canon workflow allows consumers to take advantage of added convenience and power to produce outstanding image quality directly from the camera to the printer without the need for a PC.
The iP6700D utilizes Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) technology and the ChromaLife100 ink system to produce high-quality, long-lasting photos2 that any pro would be proud to display. With an extra-large 3.5" color LCD screen for easy viewing and editing of photos, Smart LED equipped ink tanks and the Canon Advanced Paper Handling System, the PIXMA iP6700D Photo Printer has the capabilities of a photo kiosk built right in.
PIXMA iP6310D Photo Printer

The printer also supports a number of direct photo printing capabilities including select memory cards, digital cameras, DV camcorders, camera phones and other PictBridge ready devices. The iP6310D model has a maximum of 4800 x 1200 dpi3 resolution with microscopic droplets as small as two picoliters, to produce photos that are virtually grain-free - fast. In fact, it can create a borderless 4"x 6" photo lab quality print in approximately a minute4, as well as other popular sizes that are accepted by the iP6310D, from wallet to 8.5"x11" size prints.

The site offers 3-D paper craft projects, scrapbooking templates, novel greeting cards, educational materials and the opportunity to learn more about digital photography.
ChromaLife100 System
The new PIXMA Photo Printers use Canon's ChromaLife100 system, including FINE print head technology for great photo printing. When using select genuine Canon photo papers and inks, prints can resist fading for up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album.2 The 100-year-lifespan rivals that of many traditional film based photos, long considered by consumers to be the benchmark for image permanence. Prints produced on Canon Photo Paper Pro with ChromaLife100 inks have an up to ten-year gas fastness when exposed to open air. ChromaLife100 prints, when created using Canon Photo Paper Pro or Photo Paper Plus Glossy, have up to 30-year lightfastness when displayed under glass.2
FINE Engineering
Launched globally by Canon in 1999, the Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) advanced print head technology is one of the keys to the impressive speed and high photo quality in PIXMA photo printers. FINE technology uses a ground-breaking high-performance, multi-nozzle print engine that ejects consistent and microscopic ink droplets. The results are high-resolution photos with great detail and clarity in less time.
Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss (SG-201)
In addition to new hardware products, Canon introduces new papers to further expand creative options for users. Photo Paper Plus Semi-Gloss (SG-201) provides a warm luster or pearl finish that closely resembles a traditional retail print. This new paper style will be available in all of the most popular sizes:

The PIXMA MP150 Photo-All-In-One adds further value and functionality to the home office with the addition of high-end copy-friendly features. The "Fit to Page" setting enlarges or reduces a scan to fit loaded media. The "Borderless Copy" function allows the user to make edge-to-edge copies of borderless photos.
The PIXMA MP150 Photo All-In-One is a photo and document scanner that utilizes a high quality CIS scanning element that provides a maximum optical resolution of up to 1200x2400 dpi (19200 x 19200 dpi interpolated). The Advanced Z-Lid™ expansion top makes scanning thicker items, such as books, easier by lifting vertically to lie flat on the item being scanned for complete clean scans from edge to edge. Plus, the PIXMA MP150 Photo All-In-One utilizes a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface enabling faster image transfers and scanning speeds.
The new sleek and compact design of the PIXMA MP150 Photo All-In-One brings together several desktop components into one easy-to-use machine. Ink installation is easy because of the improved cartridge loading system. The FINE cartridge allows for improved accuracy and ink level detection for consumers.
ChromaLife 100 System
The PIXMA MP150 Photo All-In-One uses Canon's ChromaLife 100 ink system, along with FINE print head technology for long-lasting photo prints. When using select genuine Canon photo papers, prints can resist fading for up to 100 years when stored in an archival quality photo album. The 100-year-lifespan rivals that of many traditional film-based photos, long considered by consumers to be the benchmark for image permanence. Prints produced on Canon Photo Paper Pro with ChromaLife100 inks have up to a ten-year gas fastness when exposed to open air. ChromaLife100 prints, when created using Canon Photo Paper Pro or Photo Paper Plus Glossy, have up to a 30-year light fastness when displayed under glass.
FINE Engineering
Launched globally by Canon in 1999, the Canon FINE advanced print head technology is one of the keys to the impressive speed and high photo quality in PIXMA photo all-in-one printers. FINE uses a ground-breaking high-performance multi-nozzle print engine that ejects consistent and microscopic ink droplets. The results are high-resolution photos with great detail and clarity in less time.
The Canon PIMA MP150 Photo All-In-One printer will be available in January for an estimated selling price of $89.99
