Fujifilm launch digital Real 3D System for seeing 3D images with the naked eye
Fujifilm are extremely proud to announce the launch of a groundbreaking new imaging technology: the "FinePix Real 3D System". The World's first three dimensional (3D) digital imaging system that lets you enjoy three dimensional images without the need to wear special 3D glasses. The FinePix Real 3D system incorporates a 3D digital camera "FinePix Real 3D W1", a 3D picture viewer "FinePix Real 3D V1", and 3D prints. As a pioneer in the digital imaging sector, in 2009, Fujifilm will be able to offer the complete 3D package: from digital photography, to digital prints. Fujifilm is once again breaking new ground and continuing to raise expectations in the development of new imaging products. As a pioneer in the digital imaging sector, in 2009, Fujifilm will be able to offer the complete 3D package: from digital photography, to digital prints. Fujifilm is once again breaking new ground and continuing to raise expectations in the development of new imaging products.
Aiming to "capture precious moments just as the eyes see them", over the last decade Fujifilm has developed unique lenses, CCDs and Processors, amongst other key digital camera technologies. Today heralds the launch of the world's first digital camera that can capture 3D stills and movies, the "FinePix Real 3D W1", and the "Fine Pix Real 3D V1", an 8-inch viewer on which spectacular 3D images can be displayed. Additionally, with advances in high precision production technology, Fujifilm has successfully developed a 3D Print service enabling you to enjoy and share your 3D images.
World's first digital camera to capture realistic 3D stills and movies.
3D Photography
The Real 3D W1 camera features the newly developed "Real 3D Lens System." To achieve a natural, 3D image, it was necessary to flawlessly layer together two images, so two Fujinon lenses, renowned for their high resolution and exquisite rendering, were installed. A robust aluminum die-cast frame has been used to protect the lenses from vibration and impact. A 3x optical zoom, deemed difficult to achieve in 3D photography because of the precision required to align two lenses, is also possible. Moreover, the "RP (Real Photo) Processor 3D" which is based on photo technology that Fujifilm has developed over the years, synchronizes data passed to it by the two lenses and two CCD sensors, to determine shooting conditions such as focus, brightness and tonality to instantaneously blend this information into a single symmetrical image, for both stills and movies. The 3D/2D LCD monitor features Fujifilm's own LCD panel, exclusively for the display of 3D/2D images on digital cameras, allowing you to see beautiful, natural 3D images with the naked eye. As the camera performs a series of image processing steps automatically, anyone can take 3D stills and videos with superb picture quality by just pointing the camera and pressing the shutter button.
Creative controls
The Real 3D camera allows you to adjust the settings to suit the scene being photographed. When using the 3D two-shot function, the camera shifts to take the second shot after taking the first shot, and saves a single 3D image in the camera manually. This allows you to edit the 3D images, particularly useful for long zoom telephoto shots where a 3D image is difficult to achieve, or conversely, macro shots, where the 3D effect can be too strong.
3D "Interval Shooting" allows further flexibility; it is possible to take two shots from different viewpoints continuously while the photographer is moving, for example by train, airplane, or car, etc., to achieve 3D images of long-distance views. Users can enjoy more dynamic 3D shots, whether they are capturing a sea of clouds from an airplane, or taking 3D shots of distant views from a car window. By using the "Parallax Control" function, the 3D images can be manually adjusted, either during filming or while viewing the images on the LCD monitor; this simplicity-of-use lets users really get creative when shooting in 3D!
2D photography
Don't overlook the fact that this camera also brings fun new possibilities in 2D photography! You can really take advantage of the fact that this is actually two digital cameras in one. The "Advanced 2D Mode" uses Dual Capture simultaneous shooting which lets users take two different shots simultaneously by pressing the shutter once. With "Tele+Wide Shooting", it is possible to take a close-up photo of the subject and, at the same time, a photo with a wider span - just by changing the settings of the two lenses. With "Colour Mode" Dual Shooting users can take photos of the same scene with different color tonalities, for example, "Standard" and "Fujichrome", which works by changing the processing signals on the two sensors.
"Sensitivity Mode Dual Shooting" mode enables you to change the sensitivity setting of the two shooting systems, which expands the range of photographic expression. In scenes where it is difficult to determine the optimal camera settings, users can take shots with image stabilization priority and then with picture quality priority and choose the best image later, or in panned shots, change the image stabilization levels to take two different shots simultaneously.
A beautiful, cutting-edge exterior design that is durable yet easy to use.
You can't deny this is a good-looking camera, with cutting-edge style. The sleek metal sliding cover which protects the two lenses is specially formed so that it can be firmly gripped with both hands. The exterior finish is a luxurious Piano Black with a superb, high-gloss, elegant shine. To add to the glamour, the neon blue "3D" logo illuminates when the camera is switched on. On the back of the camera, operating buttons such as the one-touch 3D/2D switch button, are placed on both sides of the camera for simple operation using both hands. The newly developed 2.8-inch Real 3D LCD monitor displays natural and beautiful 2D and 3D images, enabling you to compose and playback your pictures easily.

PLUS, print your 3D images with high precision Fujifilm technology!
With spectacular results, Fujifilm has integrated high precision prints into its 3D offering. Through the use of lenticular sheets Fuji have the ability to produce stunning high resolution 3D images. The process involves the 3D image data being integrated using advanced technology and projected through a lenticular sheet lens to produce an image with binocular disparity. "Fujifilm will be launching a print service to the purchasers of the 3-D camera as a direct service from Fujifilm because of the newness and complexity of the print system" explained Adrian Clarke, Director of Digital Imaging. He continued, "Whilst volume from the uptake of 3D camera users is so small, it doesn't make sense to commercialise the print system yet. Once Fujifilm can provide a sustainable market demand for 3D prints and other services, the company will be able to consider print production devices for the wider processing industry".

FinePix S200EXR – EXR Sensor Pushes Bridge Quality to New Levels
Fujifilm is pleased to announce the FinePix S200EXR, a worthy successor to the award-winning FinePix S100FS. Aimed at top-end enthusiasts looking for excellent picture quality without the expense of a DSLR system, the FinePix S200EXR combines the pin-sharp 14.3x zoom lens so popular in the FinePix S100FS with the latest 12 megapixel Super CCD EXR sensor, which has won a string of awards since its introduction in the FinePix F200EXR. Compact, lightweight bridge cameras offering long zoom and high image quality have proved a big hit with those looking for an alternative to bulky interchangeable lens systems. Users of the FinePix S200EXR will find their results equal or superior to DSLRs, principally due to revolutionary design of the EXR sensor.
The key improvements of the FinePix S200EXR over the FinePix S100FS are:
1.1/1.6" 12 megapixel Super CCD EXR sensor
2.EXR Priority modes and EXR Auto
3.Pro Focus Mode and Pro Lowlight Mode
4.5 Film Simulation Modes (Black & White mode and Sepia mode is added)
5.A new 2.7" high contrast 230k dot LCD
6.New 'Super Intelligent Flash'
7.Improved battery life – almost a 50% increase on the FinePix S100FS
8.Combined CCD-RAW (EXR) / JPEG shooting
Super CCD EXR
The EXR sensor on the FinePix S200EXR was built to perfectly match the optical qualities of the 14.3x lens. The goal was to produce a sensor/lens combination that works as close to that of the human eye as possible. The EXR sensor is essentially a switchable sensor; changing its complex electronic behavior to suit the subject, changing its characteristics as the photographer demands, and producing the very best picture without making compromises.
This sensor has already won great acclaim with the FinePix F200EXR. Combined with the much bigger, more powerful 14.3x lens, it delivers quite astounding results. The FinePix S200EXR offers 3 switchable modes in one sensor:
•High Resolution (HR) mode, which deploys all 12 million pixels, and is designed to offer the finest detail of intricate subjects when light is full and even;
•Wide Dynamic Range (DR) mode, which captures different exposures with two sets of 6 million pixels, which, when combined, gives an excellent level of detail in highlights that would otherwise be lost.
•High Sensitivity and Low Noise (SN) mode, which caps two adjacent pixels together to produce 6 million large photodiodes, which are big enough to absorb light in the darkest of conditions, to produce low-light shots of extraordinary quality with minimal noise and grain.
Advanced Intelligence
The FinePix S200EXR offers EXR Priority Mode, which is the most efficient mechanism yet invented to quickly optimise the camera's settings to allow the photographer to concentrate on capturing the perfect shot. The Photographer can decide which sensor setting is preferable by choosing High Resolution Priority (HR) to maximize resolution, High ISO and Low Noise Priority (SN) for high quality low-light work or D-Range Priority (DR) for the best detail with contrasty subjects.
Also, the FinePix S200EXR features EXR Auto Mode, offering 6 settings: Portrait, Night, Macro, Landscape, Night Portrait and Backlit Portrait. The camera will recognise the scene and not only will optimise focus, colour balance, exposure, flash and sensitivity, but will also automatically switch the sensor to HR, SN or DR mode depending on the lighting conditions of the scene.
Super Sharp Lens
The massive 14.3x zoom lens is truly a delight to use in such a compact, lightweight design. The ultra-high precision Fujinon lens achieves maximum resolution at all focal lengths of 30.5mm-436mm equivalent with maximum aperture of a bright F2.8 (wide angle) to F5.3 (telephoto). Because of the composite body and lens structure, there is no need to worry about dirt or dust on the Super CCD EXR sensor, and they are perfectly aligned for the very best results. The mechanical zoom offers image framing with fingertip precision as well as offering a user experience that closely matches the use of a high-end DSLR.
Pro Focus Mode / Pro Low-light Mode
In all EXR cameras, the EXR Processor and the Super CCD EXR sensor work closely together to guarantee exceptional image quality. In the latest models including the FinePix S200EXR, newly researched Multi Frame Technology has been added, and along with it Pro Focus Mode and Pro Low-light Mode.
Pro Focus Mode works by taking a burst of 2 or 3 frames, and analysing the distance between the subject and the background. The camera then is able to take the main subject and crisply matt it against a defocused foreground and background.
Perfect for portrait or nature photography, Pro Focus Mode should be used when professional results are desired, with minimal adjustment to the camera, and without the need to edit your photos afterwards on a PC. The results from the FinePix S200EXR will look as good as those from a DSLR, or better!
Pro Low-light Mode should be used when you are trying to avoid noisy low light shots. With conventional camera models, it is possible to achieve relatively blur-free low light shots using high ISO and CCD shift (or optical image) stabilization. But this comes at a cost, as the ISO 1600 setting will invariably produce distracting and ugly noise.
Once switched to Pro Lowlight Mode, the camera will take burst of 4 high sensitivity images using Pixel Fusion Technology *1 in quick succession. It will then deploy Multi Frame Technology to overlap the 4 images to create one, single image with extremely low noise.
Film Simulation
One of the more popular features on the FinePix S100FS is repeated and extended on the FinePix S200EXR. The FinePix S200EXR offers five modes as follows:
•Velvia/Vivid mode for rich and luscious landscapes.
•PROVIA/Standard mode for excellent, sharp, standard photography.
•ASTIA/Soft mode for soft, fine, smooth tonality.
•Black & White mode captures the dramatic honesty of your image in black and white.
•Sepia mode creates a sense of nostalgia with the warm brown "antique" tones of Sepia.
In Velvia and ASTIA modes, the dynamic range can be now be set to 800% to improve highlight detail further.
Only Fujifilm has developed its camera technology from its photographic heritage in film, which allows the FinePix S200EXR to capture subtle changes in tone and colour reproduction and provide the photographer the widest latitude for the ultimate creative expression.
New High Contrast 2.7" LCD
The FinePix S200EXR is fitted with an improved high contrast 230k dot 2.7" LCD. The high contrast LCD is a considerable benefit in bright light. The High Contrast LCD means that the camera can be pitched at various shooting angles to enable framing of awkward shots. Viewable at angles of up to 160 degrees both vertically and horizontally, the LCD is bright and clear for easy and beautiful preview of your shots.
Super Intelligent Flash
Super Intelligent Flash is a flash control technology that lets you take flash-assisted shots without the danger of flash wash-out. Integrated into the AUTO mode, this next-generation flash system makes it easy to capture both subjects and background in bright, clear and natural detail over the full flash range. For those needing much better flash control for close-up and macro photography, the FInePix S200EXR will take the guesswork out of achieving perfect pictures at the touch of button.
Dual Image Stabilization
The FinePix S200EXR features Fujifilm's Optical Image Stabilization technology guaranteeing clean, sharp and blur-free images, even in low-light conditions. This technology combines Optical Image Stabilization to reduce blur from the photographer's hand-shake, with Fujifilm's High ISO setting, to reduce blur caused by subject movement (by automatically increasing ISO), for the ultimate in stabilisation technology.
Manually set the capture
In the FinePix S200EXR it is possible to set shutter speeds of between 1/4,000 second and 30 seconds. By adjusting the manual controls it is possible to take photos with diverse expression by combining ISO sensitivity, which has a broad range of setting choices, and multiple apertures of between F2.8 - F11 at 1/3EV steps. Using the manual exposure setting, a bulb exposure of up to 30 seconds is possible. The colour, noise reduction control, tone and the sharpness can also be individually set.
Multi Bracketing
The FinePix S200EXR has three bracketing functions useful for high level photography: Film Simulation Bracketing (which automatically sets Film Simulation to PROVIA, Velvia and ASTIA for simultaneous capture of three frames), Dynamic Range Bracketing (which automatically sets dynamic range to 100%, 200% and 400% for simultaneous capture of three frames) and AE Bracketing (which automatically sets exposure range to even, under and over for simultaneous capture of three frames).
Other Features:
•Combined CCD RAW (EXR) / JPEG shooting
New to the FinePix S200EXR is the ability to shoot both a RAW and JPEG shot simultaneously *2. RAW is for ultimate quality shots via post processing: JPEG is for great quality with no need for further work.
•Battery life extended
With improved power management, the FinePix S200EXR can now shoot 370 shots per charge of the included NP-140 Lithium Ion battery, so there is no need to worry about power running out half way through a photo shoot.
•Movie Mode
The FinePix S200EXR can record movies in 640 x 480 at 30 frames per second.
•Electronic View Finder
The camera is fitted with a 0.2" 200k dot EVF, for sharp and clear images via the viewfinder.

*1 Pixel Fusion Technology: Technology of Fujifilm changing the colour filter arrangement. Two side-by-side, same-colored pixels are taken together as a single pixel. The area of imaging elements is doubled, the sensitivity is twice the normal level, and "dark noise" is extremely small. Therefore, it is possible to create a high sensitivity image with little noise, instead of increasing the gain from a single pixel and increasing the noise.
*2 CCD RAW files captured by S200EXR cannot be converted with FinePixViewer included in the CD-ROM. Updater of FinePixViewer for conversion of CCD RAW files will be available from Nov, 2009.

FinePix F200 EXR Announced
The latest F-Series compact with revolutionary Super CCD EXR switchable sensor technology; the FinePix F200EXR.
First announced at Photokina 2008, Fujifilm's new EXR technology makes its first appearance in a new camera announced today, the FinePix F200EXR. Following a long line of famous Super CCD sensors in cameras like the FinePix F10 and FinePix F31fd, the FinePix F200EXR is designed by Fujifilm to be the perfect camera for the photographic enthusiast. Primed to be the class-leading compact of 2009, the FinePix F200EXR utilises brand new, ground-breaking technology to create an unprecedented level of image quality from a consumer level compact. Using the human eye as the basis for the perfect camera sensor, Fujifilm has yet again extended technological boundaries, creating a Super CCD capable of registering excellent levels of detail when switched to its high resolution mode, but at the same time, capable of offering excellent quality in low light and superb highlight detail in contrasty light when switched to its high sensitivity and wide dynamic range modes respectively.
In addition to the 12 Megapixel 1/1.6"Super CCD EXR and completely redesigned EXR Processor, the FinePix F200EXR inherits its rich feature set from the FinePix F100fd, which includes a powerful Fujinon 5x wide angle optical zoom lens, and the most powerful face detection technology on the market, Face Detection 3.0, with auto red eye removal. On top of this, the F200EXR offers 5 Film Simulation Modes, a 3.0" high-resolution 230,000 dots wide view LCD, HD Photo Output, Dual Image Stabilisation and sensitivity up to ISO 12800 (3 million pixel only).
This combination of cutting-edge technology encased within a pocketable digital compact body means that advanced amateur photographers through to professionals will be able to take breathtaking pictures in the most challenging of conditions.
The world's most versatile photographic sensor
Faced with a market driven by the demand for higher pixel counts, yet conscious that high concentrations of pixels on small sensors can produce diminishing quality returns, Fujifilm engineers had a radical rethink about sensor technology. Why not make a sensor that can flex its behaviour according to the scene to be photographed? Why not give full resolution when bright light allows, but use the pixels in a different way when the light is not ideal? The FinePix F200EXR offers 3 switchable modes in one sensor:
High Resolution mode, which deploys all twelve million pixels, and is designed to offer the finest detail of intricate subjects when light is full and even;
High Sensitivity and Low Noise mode, which caps two adjacent pixels together to produce 6 million large photodiodes, which are big enough to absorb light in the darkest of conditions, to produce low-light shots of extraordinary quality with minimal noise and grain; and
Wide Dynamic Range mode, which captures different exposures with two sets of six million pixels, which, when combined, gives an excellent level of detail in highlights that would otherwise be lost.
In EXR Mode, the photographer can choose which sensor setting is preferable for the subject to be photographed by choosing High Resolution Priority (HR) to maximise resolution, High ISO and Low Noise Priority (SN) for high quality low-light work or D-Range Priority (DR) for the best detail with contrasty subjects.
Perfect Pictures - Automatically
The FinePix F60fd was the first digital camera to introduce SR AUTO (Scene Recognition AUTO), allowing photographers to let the camera determine the settings to ensure correct exposure, colour reproduction and lighting. The FinePix F200 EXR takes the next technological step by combining Scene recognition technology with EXR technology by automatically and intelligently choosing the correct Super CCD EXR Priority in conjunction with a range of other controls (image quality, exposure, focus, white balance etc). Now, the photographer can let the camera choose the best sensor mode by using the revolutionary EXR AUTO mode, which is the most efficient mechanism yet invented to quickly optimise the camera's settings to allow the photographer to concentrate on capturing the perfect shot. EXR Auto offers six modes to choose from: Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Backlit Portrait, Night, and Night Portrait. As an example, when taking close subject, FinePix F200EXR will intelligently choose Macro mode by recognizing the scene. Then the sensor will switch to the best EXR mode that is suitable for the scene. Intelligently switching into one of High Resolution Priority (HR), High ISO and Low Noise Priority(S/N), and D-Range Priority (DR) to capture the best possible shot.
The FinePix F200EXR also retains Fujifilm's improved exposure modes. New "Super intelligent flash" can control technology that even lets you take flash assisted macro shots without flash washout. Enables to capture subjects and background in bright, clear a natural detail over the full flash range including ultra close-ups. Other popular exposure modes such as Natural Light and with Flash (giving the user a choice of flash 'on' or flash 'off' shots) or Natural Light, is featured to capture great candid portraits when powerful flash might be intrusive.
Like all great compacts, the FinePix F200EXR lets the photographer decide the best shooting mode. On AUTO, the camera deploys 12 million pixels and operates like other standard high-class compacts. On MANUAL, the aperture and shutter speed can be chosen independently, while PROGRAM mode offers a choice of Program AE and Aperture Priority AE.
Don't Leave Without Your Favourite Film
Photographic versatility is stretched yet further with the addition of five Film Simulation modes. Producing beautiful images is something which is in the very DNA of Fujifilm, and Fujifilm engineers are determined to leverage the considerable strengths gained through years of perfecting film to making the best sensor possible. Introduced to compacts for the very first time, the FinePix F200EXR offers Velvia / Vivid mode for rich and luscious landscapes, Provia / Standard mode for excellent, sharp, standard photography, ASTIA / Soft mode for fine, smooth tonality, Black and White for dramatic monochromes and Sepia for a warm-toned period look are also featured.
Great on TV Also
Images captured by the FinePix F200EXR look breathtaking when displayed on an HDTV. With standard HD cameras, HD-out means pictures can de displayed in the correct aspect ratio in excellent resolution. But with the FinePix F200EXR, noise and grain in the shadows is hardly noticeable while highlights, so often poor with conventional cameras, can be seen in excellent detail. And colour, sometimes washed out and insipid, looks bold and dramatic, especially when Film Simulation modes are used.
The Full Package
The FinePix F200EXR is fitted with the same sharp lens that made its predecessor such a winner. With its precision optics and massive 5x zoom range, from wide 28mm to long telephoto of 140 mm, the optic delivers sharp, crisp pictures to the sensor every time. And with CCD shift image stabilisation combined with high sensitivity, shots will be blur-free time after time, even in the most difficult of conditions. The FinePix F200EXR can shoot up to super high sensitivity ISO 12800.
Finally, to help with quick focusing, the FinePix F200EXR is fitted with Fujifilm's Face Detection 3.0, which is regarded to be one of the most accurate and speedy on the market. Faces can be 'found' instantly and accurately at any angle.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director, said: "Fujifilm's F series cameras have long been regarded as image quality leading compact cameras, and have been triumphant in numerous awards. What makes them so successful is Fujifilm's Super CCD sensor, built from years of Fujifilm's photographic knowledge. Now, with the launch of Super CCD EXR in the FinePix F200EXR, Fujifilm have taken compact camera technology and image quality to a new level. The FinePix F200EXR will suit serious photographers, advanced amateurs and everyone who wants the best image quality in the convenience of a compact body."

Strike a Pose
For added peace of mind Fujifilm have included 14 useful pre-programmed scene modes. So, if you want to capture a photo of the perfect sand-castle being built switch the camera to "Beach" mode; drinks in the disco-bar with friends can be captured perfectly in "Party" mode. These clever Scene Positions mean that the camera automatically selects the appropriate shutter speed, exposure and white balance to suit the scene and guarantee the best picture possible. Sounds complicated, but with the Fujifilm A150 and A100 it's as easy as pushing a button. Maximum results, minimum effort.
For an even greater choice the A150 features an impressive 3" LCD screen, while the A100 features a 2.7" LCD screen.
In addition to stills, you can also create your own movies with sound. The A100 and A150's QVGA Movie Mode enable users to create their own 30 frames per second video clips in camera.
The A150 and A100 feature 20MB of internal memory, which is a great back-up storage option, so users can continue to shoot and save pictures even when the media card is full. What's more, the camera's low power consumption (operating on two standard AA batteries) means users will never miss out on capturing the action.
Again Fujifilm have produced two cameras that deliver three key features; excellent image quality, simple operation and enviable good looks, with a price tag that will put a smile on your face and money left in your wallet.

Revolutionary sensor blazes the way to a new era of high image quality
PHOTOKINA 2008, COLOGNE, GERMANY, September 23, 2008 -FUJIFILM Corporation, on the anniversary of 10 years of FinePix cameras, has developed "Super CCD EXR," a revolutionary new sensor developed in the rigorous pursuit of high image quality. There is strong demand in the digital camera market to increase the number of pixels on a sensor, which, all too often, is used as a convenient yardstick for image quality. While introducing excellent 12-megapixel cameras such as the FinePix F50fd and the FinePix F100fd, Fujifilm has had great success in increasing pixel density while at the same time controlling noise and optimising sensitivity. Fujifilm's campaign to improve overall image quality, while at the same time increasing sensor resolution, has been coordinated under the program of 'Real Photo Technology.
'Real Photo Technology' is underpinned by the belief that experienced photographers, many brought up using famous reversal films like FUJICHROME Velvia or PROVIA, understand that true image quality is about a combination of many factors like tone, hue, colour fidelity, dynamic range, sharpness, and resolution. It is well known that increasing the pixel count on a sensor actually makes it more difficult to achieve high sensitivity and wide dynamic range. As the photodiode gets smaller, the problems of increased noise, blooming and clipping increase.
It is widely believed that 'high resolution' and 'high sensitivity' are irreconcilable opposites, and impossible to optimise on the same sensor, particularly for compact cameras, where sensors are necessarily smaller.
High quality pictures are dependent on the subject. Excellent low light pictures need high sensitivity; high contrast pictures need wide dynamic range, while fine details, like the leaves of a tree or strands of a model's hair, depend on high resolution.
Fujifilm engineers set about the task of building a flexible sensor to match the demands of the photographer. The end-goal is to produce a sensor that works as close to that of the human eye as possible. Whatever nuance of colour or sensitivity of tone that makes the scene so special to the photographer should be the continual challenge of the sensor engineer. The EXR sensor is essentially a switchable sensor; changing its complex electronic behavior to suit the subject, changing its characteristics as the photographer demands, and producing the very best picture without making compromises.
"Super CCD EXR" is the latest new generation of Super CCD to be produced by Fujifilm. Over the years, Fujifilm has excelled in high resolution sensors through 'HR' technology (F50fd, F100fd) and high sensitivity/wide dynamic range through 'SR' sensors (S3 Pro, S5 Pro). The direction in the future will be to combine HR and SR technology together to produce one universal sensor suitable for all high quality photography.

Fujifilm expands its J range with four new versatile models
Fujifilm today announces the latest additions to its range of high quality J series compacts, the FinePix J100, J110W, J120 and J150W. Aimed at consumers who want a choice of multipurpose fuss-free cameras, the J range of cameras are perfect family compacts, giving highest quality images at affordable prices. Fujifilm FinePix J100 range offers a core specification of a 10 Megapixel CCD sensor and a versatile and functional 5x optical zoom lens, but varies the LCD size and lens for maximum choice. Fujifilm prides itself in making cameras for every type of consumer, whether they are an aspiring professional or a fuss-free happy snapper. Behind every Fujifilm camera is the guarantee of stunning image quality - the heart of the FinePix brand - and the new, affordable FinePix J-cameras are no exception. Since its launch in January 2008, the J-range has been extremely popular with consumers who demand elegant, fashionable cameras that capture breathtaking images at the touch of a button. The J-range is the ultimate family camera; accessible and easy to use, it can be picked up and enjoyed by any member of the family, regardless of their experience behind the lens, to record life's precious memories.
Consumers deserve the best at whatever the price point, and Fujifilm engineers have not compromised on image quality. The image engine of the new J series cameras is built around the combination of a 10 Megapixel CCD and a specially designed FinePix DSP (digital signal processor), borrowed from a number of Fujifilm's higher priced compacts. In addition, Fujifilm has invested in a 'best in class' Fujinon 5x zoom lens to ensure every pixel is reproduced as clearly and as faithfully as possible to produce stunning images.
Family 'enthusiast' photographers tend to prefer wide-angle - so the FinePix J110W and J150W offer a focal range of 28mm-140mm, making it ideal for a range of photographic subjects. For those who worry less about wide shots and prefer a greater telephoto reach - for candid portrait photography or for general travel photography – the telephoto range of the FinePix J100 and J120 is extended to 175mm (starting at the standard 35mm) pulling the furthest subjects nearer, but not compromising on image quality.
There's also the choice of screen size. Some consumers love the big 3" screen, some are content with 2.7". The FinePix J100 and J110W have a 2.7" LCD screen and the FinePix J150W and J120 offer the bigger 3" LCD screen. All screens are high quality 230,000 pixel, amorphous silicon TFT LCDs. All you need to do is marry up the screen size you desire with the zoom range you want. The choice is yours.
With such a range of choice on the shelves nowadays, design and styling have to be perfect to win the sale. Despite the higher quality 5x zoom optic, the FinePix J100 series cameras are remarkably slim at only 22.6mm wide. Encased in a high-grade brushed aluminium metal shell, they are not only well protected from bumps and scrapes, but give a simple, yet elegant design, which will turn the eye of the most discerning of consumers.
Unlike many other cameras at this price point, the FinePix J100 series comes with a rechargeable NP-45 lithium-ion battery and CP-45 charger, which is so much easier and cheaper than using standard AA alkaline batteries.
In addition, the new J cameras offer high ISO sensitivity to 1600, getting the best results from shooting in low light conditions, software-based Face Detection with auto red-eye removal, Picture Stabilisation, Continuous Shooting, 13 different shooting programs (Landscape, Sport, Night, Natural Light, Fireworks, Beach, Snow, Sunset, Flower, Party, Museum, Text, Manual) and an internal memory of 24MB, just in case you fill your memory card up. A J-series camera will be become a faithful companion; its small size means it is easily portable, and most importantly it will produce amazing images that you'll be proud to share.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Digital Products, said: "The J series continues to build on the Fujifilm tradition of offering consumers feature-rich, easy-to-use compact cameras. These new models give users greater choice, versatility and stylish design at affordable prices. For those who want a straightforward camera that takes great images, but don't want to break the bank, then Fujifilm's J range is the ideal choice."

Fujifilm announces the FinePix F60fd Camera
Fujifilm is pleased to announce the launch of the new FinePix F60fd, joining the existing range of high-tech, high-quality F-series cameras. Succeeding the hugely popular FinePix F50fd, the FinePix F60fd features a larger 3.0" LCD screen, Face Detection 3.0 and brand new, proprietary, Scene Recognition technology. Beneath its stylish exterior, the FinePix F60fd utilises the combination of high resolution and high sensitivity to produce images of breathtakingly beauty. Loaded with a 12 Megapixel Super CCD sensor, Dual Image Stabilisation (CCD-shift with high ISO), ISO sensitivity of 1600 (6400 at 3 MP), and a Fujinon 3x zoom (35-105mm equivalent), the FinePix F60fd is a worthy successor of F-series classics like the FinePix F40fd or F50fd.
For users who like to have creative control over their compact and who want more than point-and-shoot photography, the FinePix F60fd has the option of full photographic control. Equally, the FinePix F60fd suits those consumers who are happy to rely on auto mode for simple, fuss-free photography. Available black the FinePix F60fd is due out this September as a sister model to the FinePix F100fd.
Scene Recognition-AUTO (SR AUTO) with Real Photo Technology
Most compact digital cameras feature scene modes where the user selects the scene they are photographing before they take the shot. In a first for Fujifilm cameras, the FinePix F60fd is equipped with Scene Recognition technology which cleverly detects a scene without the need of pre-selecting the mode on the camera. Having identified the most commonly photographed subjects, Fujifilm has developed technology to automatically identify and recognise different scenes – Portrait, Night, Landscape, and Macro. Once the scene in the frame has been detected, the camera will optimise the settings to capture the most stunning photo of your chosen subject. Real Photo Technology - the combination of the unique Super CCD sensor, RP Processor and Fujinon Lens - will work together to offer you stunning results. Natural skin tones for portraits, clear pictures with less noise for night scenes, pictures in detail for landscape and crisp pictures for macro. From now, don't think. Let the camera work with the setting with SR AUTO and achieve striking results with FinePix F60fd.
Face Detection 3.0
First featured in the FinePix F100fd, the FinePix F60fd is equipped with Face Detection 3.0 technology, which goes one step further by recognising faces at more extreme angles. As with the original version of Face Detection, it can detect up to 10 faces in a scene in as little as 0.036 seconds, automatically correcting focus, exposure, and white balance, regardless of where subjects are located within the frame. Face Detection 3.0 can register faces with up to 90O movement in either direction for profiles, and with rotations of up to 360O. After the shot is taken, the system instantly corrects red-eye and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.
Dual Image Stabilisation
As well as offering class-leading high ISO performance for avoiding subject blur when shooting in low light, the FinePix F60fd also features CCD-shift image stabilisation for avoiding the effects of camera shake at longer shutter speeds. The combination of high ISO and CCD-shift stabilisation offers a complete system for avoiding blur caused by hand shake or subject motion. Never before has a compact camera offered such a comprehensive solution for avoiding blurred results while retaining high-resolution photographic quality.
3.0" LCD and other useful functions
The FinePix F60fd is fitted with a class leading 230,000 pixel 3.0" TFT monitor fitted with Fujifilm's Wide View Film, which enables easy viewing of pictures at oblique angles to the screen. Further to this, a new sort by date system has been added. The FinePix F60fd also features another feature so popular in previous F-series models - Portrait Enhancer mode. The FinePix F60fd's powerful automatic retouching system gives skin tones a silky-smooth texture and removes blemishes such as spots and wrinkles.
FinePix F60fd features at a glance:
12 Megapixel Super CCD Sensor
Fujifilm 3x optical zoom (35-105mm equivalent)
Scene Recognition Auto (SR AUTO)
Face Detection 3.0 with automatic red-eye removal
3.0" LCD screen, 230,000 dots
Dual Image Stabilisation (CCD-shift and high ISO)
Full manual control
ISO 100-1600 sensitivity at full resolution, ISO 3200 and 6400 at 6MP and 3MP resolution respectively
Movie mode with sound
Portrait Enhancer mode
xD/SD/SDHC compatible
Real Photo Technology
The secret to the FinePix F60fd's class-leading image quality is Fujifilm's unique Real Photo Technology (RPT). The guiding principles behind RPT are simple; to set the highest possible standards for overall image quality, to expand digital photography opportunities and to give users fewer wasted shots.
RPT is an umbrella term for the combination of cutting edge technologies such as the Super CCD sensor, Real Photo Processor and Fujinon lens, all optimised to work together to produce the most natural, beautiful results in any conditions. As one of the largest imaging companies worldwide, Fujifilm is in a position to develop and to manufacture these components themselves, and it is this control over the design of the entire system that makes RPT so powerful.
Real Photo Technology cameras are designed from the ground up to capture 'real' photographs with stunning quality - giving users the power to capture the moment exactly as the eye sees it, no matter how challenging the shooting conditions.
With the human eye as the ideal, RPT continues to evolve and to set even higher standards for digital photography.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Digital Products, said: "Fujifilm's FinePix F50fd has been a big seller this year and Fujifilm have returned with the FinePix F60fd to follow in its foot steps. The FinePix F60fd features some notable improvements which will appeal to photographers of all levels. The new SR AUTO is an exciting new feature that will no doubt be a hit with consumers. The camera will also appeal to enthusiasts who will appreciate the camera's manual controls. But what will really score is the superb image quality, thanks to the quality lens, processor and Super CCD HR sensor."

Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD - HDTV capabilities extends S-Series Range
Fujifilm today announces the introduction of the FinePix S2000HD, a compact and lightweight 10 megapixel digital camera with an incredible 15x optical zoom lens and HD movie recording and output. The FinePix S2000HD is the first Fujifilm model to offer full compatibility with high definition television (HDTV) systems for both stills and movies. As well as capturing true HD movies (at 1280 x 720 pixels) and wide screen stills (at 1920 x 1080 pixels), the FinePix S2000HD's HD output allows the camera to display ultra clear high definition photographs and movies on HDTV. The FinePix S2000HD comes with remote control and cable, so it's all ready for action. Despite its compact size the FinePix S2000HD also boasts an amazing 15x optical zoom covering an incredibly versatile 27.6-414mm (equivalent to a 35mm camera) range from true wide-angle to ultra telephoto. From sweeping landscapes, interiors and large group shots to distant sports or wildlife action, the FinePix S2000HD is ready for every photographic challenge thrown at it.
The FinePix S2000HD's Dual Image Stabilisation mode combines a mechanically stabilized CCD sensor with high ISO sensitivities for total anti-blur protection. The combination of these technologies reduces the blurring effect of both hand-shake and subject movement even further to provide sharp, clean and clear results even at the longest zoom settings or in the most challenging lighting conditions.
Action stations
To make capturing the perfect moment even easier the FinePix S2000HD boasts the ability to shoot continuously at up to 13.5 frames per second with max 33frames (3MP mode) – ideal for shooting fast moving kids, sports or wildlife action. Fujifilm FinePix Z200fd
Announcement Date: 22 May 2008. Fujifilm today announced the launch of the 10 Megapixel FinePix Z200fd, the latest addition to its popular range of ultra-slim, metal-bodied, high performance ccompact digital cameras.
Despite being only 19.8mm thick the FinePix Z200fd is packed with state-of-the-art technology including a 5x Fujinon optical zoom lens, Fujifilm's acclaimed Face Detection technology, intelligent red-eye removal and Dual Image Stabilisation, as well as two brand new self-timer modes: Couple Timer and Group Timer.
It's all about the timing
The FinePix Z200fd features two brand new self-timer modes: Couple Timer and Group Timer. Working in combination with Face Detection technology, the self-timer automatically sets off after the camera has detected faces in a frame. The camera won't take the photo if one of the faces is out the frame, so there's no need to worry about someone being missed out of the shot!
Cheek-to-cheek
The Couple Timer mode cleverly detects two faces in a frame and will automatically release the shutter button as the two faces come closer together. The Couple Timer mode has three settings so users can set the timer to detect faces at various distances, whether they are standing side by side, or cheek-to-cheek.
The more the merrier
Group shots have never been so easy. The FinePix Z200fd's Group Timer mode can detect up to four faces in a frame and automatically sets the timer to take that precious shot. Using the Face Detection button, the user can select the number of faces in the frame, from one to four, and the camera will only take the shot once all the specified number of faces are in the frame.
Cutting edge design and packed with features
The FinePix Z200fd houses powerful features in an elegant, metal body. This stylish camera comes in four attractive colours – a black and red combination, pink, silver and black – and has a unique diagonally sliding lens cover with a snazzy 'Z' logo that illuminates when the camera is switched on. Its slim design means that it can fit easily into a cluttered handbag or jean pocket so your camera is always to the ready.
Beneath its trendy exterior, the FinePix Z200fd boasts an impressive Fujinon 5x zoom lens (33-165mm equivalent), Dual Image Stabilisation, which combines CCD-shift and high ISO to combat the problem of camera shake and blurry images, and ISO sensitivity up to 1600. There's also Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system, which sets the power output to achieve natural foreground illumination with balanced background exposure for more natural looking photos. For users who cannot decide whether to use a flash or not, Natural Light plus Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession, one with flash and one without. Both photos are then displayed side by side for quick comparison allowing users to decide which one they prefer.
The FinePix Z200fd makes perfect portraits simple with Fujifilm's Face Detection technology. Face Detection works by triangulating eyes and mouth, using an algorithm to optimise focus, white balance and exposure for up to ten faces in a single frame, and is not confused by spectacles. In addition, the automatic red-eye removal feature can find and instantly correct any red eye from every face in the frame, saving the user the time consuming process of doing it afterwards on the computer.
To share and share-alike
The FinePix Z200fd is a perfect social camera. In addition to the Face Detection technology and people-friendly self-timers modes, the FinePix Z200fd features a Blog mode, which resizes images for easy upload to social networking sites such as Facebook™, and an Auction mode, which combines up to four photos in one frame – ideal for eBay™ users. What's more, the FinePix Z200fd's IrSimple™ function allows consumers to share photos from one IrSimple™ device to another.
Real Photo Technology
Driving the FinePix Z200fd is Fujifilm's unique Real Photo Technology (RPT). The guiding principles behind RPT are simple; to set the highest possible standards for overall image quality, to expand digital photography opportunities and to give users fewer wasted shots.
With the human eye as the ideal, Real Photo Technology cameras are designed from the ground up to capture 'real' photographs with stunning quality - giving users the power to capture the moment exactly as the eye sees it, no matter how challenging the shooting conditions.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "The FinePix Z200fd is the perfect 'social' camera for the user looking for a combination of classic styling and cutting edge features. We believe that consumers wanting a super-slim camera shouldn't have to make compromises on image quality or features, and with the FinePix Z200fd they don't."

Fujifilm unveils the ultimate 'F Series' digital camera
Following the long line of award-winning F-Series models, Fujifilm UK today announced the most accomplished model in the range yet, the FinePix F100fd digital camera. Combining a 12 Megapixel 8th Generation Super CCD with a powerful Fujinon 5x wide angle optical zoom lens, a 2.7" high-resolution 230,000 pixel wide angle view LCD, the FinePix F100fd is one of the most sophisticated compact digital cameras Fujifilm has ever produced. It offers the most advanced technologies available, including Wide Dynamic Range, Dual Image Stabilisation, Face Detection 3.0 Technology with automatic red-eye removal and ISO settings of up to an unprecedented ISO 12800 - so missing great shots is not an option.
NEW Wide Dynamic Range
Dynamic Range, or the gradations of light that exist between bright and dark in any scene, can be easily detected by the human eye, but not by most cameras. Fujifilm first expanded dynamic range capture functionality on the professional imaging side with its FinePix S3 Pro digital camera. The technology, now perfected in the EISA Award-winning FinePix S5 Pro, has been brought to the consumer in the FinePix F100fd. Through a combination of advances in Fujifilm's new Super CCD HR VIII sensor and RP (Real Photo) Processor III, this wide dynamic range dramatically broadens tonal capability and guarantees exceptional rendition of photos with both bright highlights and dark shadows. This expansion of sensitivity captures greater detail, and subtle nuances of brightness and tonality that bring the photo closer to what the human eye actually sees helping to avoid the 'white sky' effect caused by the loss of fine highlight detail.
NEW Faster Face Detection 3.0
The FinePix F100fd is also equipped with Fujifilm's proprietary Face Detection 3.0 technology featuring automatic red-eye removal. As with the original version of Face Detection, it can detect up to 10 human faces in a scene in as little as .035 seconds, automatically correcting focus, exposure, and white balance, regardless of where subjects are located within the frame. Now the FinePix F100fd is able to identify faces at much more extreme camera angles than before. The camera can register faces with up to 90O movement in either direction for profiles, and with rotations of up to 360O. After the shot is taken, the system instantly corrects red-eye as fast as 0.1 second and then saves both the original and the corrected image file automatically.
Total protection from blurred pictures
The FinePix F100fd features Fujifilm's Dual Image Stabilisation mode, which combines a mechanically stabilised Super CCD sensor with high ISO sensitivities for total anti-blur protection. The combination of these technologies reduces the blurring effect of both hand-shake and subject movement even further to provide the highest quality digital pictures yet, with sharp, clean and clear results no matter what the shooting conditions. Thanks to the 8th generation FinePix Super CCD HR chip and the RP Processor III, the FinePix F100fd can utilise ISO settings of up to ISO 3200 at full resolution and an amazing ISO 12800 at reduced resolution1, capturing stunning images even in low light, while preserving the natural colour and clarity of the shot.
FinePix F100fd key features:
• 12 megapixel Super CCD HR VIII and RP (Real Photo) Processor III: Ultra high resolution for razor-sharp results and unrivalled dynamic range.
• 5x Fujinon zoom lens: Powerful and versatile shooting options.
• Face Detection Technology 3.0 with intelligent red-eye removal: Even more capable, even faster than before.

• Continuous Shooting: Top/Final 3 at 1.7 frames per second at full resolution and Top/Final 12 at 5 frames per second at 3 Megapixels.
• High speed playback: No waiting for high-resolution images to load during play back. The FinePix F100fd can display images at full resolution at 10 frames per second.
• Portrait Enhancer Mode: Mimicking a professional photo studio setting, by using Face Detection and preset camera settings, Portrait Enhancer minimises fine lines and small skin blemishes for smooth, natural looking portraits.
• Dual Shot Mode: In this selectable mode, the FinePix F100fd quickly shoots two images in rapid succession – one with the flash and one without – and saves both. This convenient function lets users perform a comparison at their convenience and select the most pleasing image.
• Special scene modes: The FinePix F100fd has 16 pre-programmed scenes, including a special underwater scene mode for use with a special underwater casing and a Blog mode that automatically reduces the size of copied images for easy posting to a Blog, Web page or email attachment.
• Micro Thumbnail: A playback feature that allows for viewing an index-style print on the LCD. The FinePix F100fdwill show up to 100 images in micro form, then the control buttons are used to select specific images. An innovative wheel navigation dial makes it easy to quickly find a single image by being able to jump to particular segments of images in the time sequence.
• IrSimple™: Infrared communication via IrSimple™ technology for fast, easy wireless image transfer to a compatible device.
• xD/SD/SD-HC compatible slot: The FinePix F100fdfeatures a xD/SD compatible slot which accepts not only Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Cards but also Secure Digital (SD) and SD-High Capacity/SD-HC cards too.

Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd: The world's smallest* 12x optical zoom digital camera
Fujifilm UK today announced the introduction of the FinePix S1000fd, a compact and lightweight digital camera with an impressive 12x optical zoom lens.
Perfect for advanced amateur photographers the 10 Megapixel FinePix S1000fd features a versatile Fujinon 12x optical zoom (33mm-396mm equivalent), Face Detection Technology with automatic red-eye removal, ISO levels of up to ISO 1600 at full resolution and ISO 3200 at 3 Megapixel resolution, and a brand new Panoramic Shooting Mode.
Panorama Shooting Mode
For capturing sweeping scenery or large groups of people, the new Panorama Shooting Mode makes it easy to create impressive panoramic photos. Panorama Shooting Mode captures and combines a maximum of three consecutive shots at 3 Megapixel resolution, which are saved to the memory card as a panoramic picture.
Face Detection Technology
Fujifilm's Face Detection technology was originally developed for the company's photofinishing division, where it was used for reproducing the fine detail in people's faces in print. It works in the camera by triangulating eyes and mouth, using an algorithm to optimise focus, white balance and exposure for up to six faces in a single frame. Movement tracking keeps the camera 'locked on' to its subjects until they move out of the picture. The technology works irrespective of the subject's position in the frame, and is not confused by glasses.
Say goodbye to red-eye – for good
Red-eye is the single biggest reason why the best portraits are ruined. The FinePix S1000fd uses Face Detection technology to find and instantly correct any red-eye from every face in the frame as the shot is taken.
The system on the FinePix S1000fd will only correct redness in the pupil of the eye, not elsewhere in the picture, because the camera uses eye detection within face detection to find the pupil. While other cameras can sometimes convert lips or red jewellery to brown or blue, the FinePix S1000fd never gets it wrong.
Fujifilm's new FinePix S1000fd also offers the following features:
• Picture Stabilisation Mode: Picture Stabilisation uses the increased sensitivity of the FinePix S1000fd and high-speed shutter settings to reduce blur caused by hand-shake or subject movement. It allows the camera to automatically choose the correct light sensitivity and optimal shutter speed to produce clear, blur-free images.
• Full manual photographic control: Photo enthusiasts and advanced photographers have total control with manual adjustment options for various camera settings including resolution, ISO, aperture, shutter speed and more.
• High speed shooting: Capture the action with the High Speed Shooting mode: 7.5 fps @ 2MP for 15 shots; 3.3 fps @ 5MP for 6 shots; and 1.4 fps @ 10MP for 3 shots.
• Movie Mode: VGA quality at 30 frames per second with sound.
• 14 Pre-programmed scene modes: The FinePix S1000fd features 14 pre-programmed scene modes that offer a one-touch setting for almost any situation, including: Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Night, Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Museum, Party, Flower and Text.
• xD/SD/SD-HC compatible slot: The FinePix S1000fd features an xD/SD Compatible slot which accepts not only Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Cards but also Secure Digital (SD) and SD-High Capacity/SD-HC cards too.
• Operates on 4xAA batteries: The ultimate in convenience and accessibility, using AA batteries means in a pinch, more batteries are just moments away.
Real Photo Technology
Driving the FinePix S1000fd is Fujifilm's unique Real Photo Technology (RPT). The guiding principles behind RPT are simple; to set the highest possible standards for overall image quality, to expand digital photography opportunities and to give users fewer wasted shots.
RPT is an umbrella term for the combination of cutting edge technologies such as Face Detection, Real Photo Processor and Fujinon lens, all optimised to work together to produce the most natural, beautiful results in any conditions. As one of the largest imaging companies worldwide Fujifilm is in a position to develop and to manufacture these components themselves, and it is this control over the design of the entire system that makes RPT so powerful.
"With the introduction of the FinePix S1000fd we are offering enthusiast photographers a uniquely affordable digital camera with an impressive range of features," said Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Digital Products. "The new 12x zoom lens and new features such as the Panoramic Shooting Mode show Fujifilm's commitment to offering sophisticated, highly competitive cameras at all price points."

Fujifilm unveils its most advanced consumer digital camera to date: The FinePix S100FS
Fujifilm UK today unveiled the FinePix S100FS (Film Simulation) digital camera, its most advanced DSLR-styled camera to date. The FinePix S100FS provides an all-in-one solution for photo enthusiasts and advanced amateur photographers seeking the manual controls and functionality of a DSLR without the bulk, hassle and expense of additional lenses and other accessories.
The FinePix S100FS is equipped with a 14.3x Fujinon manual zoom lens, Fujifilm's 8th generation 2/3" Super CCD sensor with 11 Megapixels, third generation RP III processor, 2.5" tiltable LCD and ISO capabilities of up to ISO 6400 (at 6 MP) and an incredible ISO 10,000 at 3 Megapixels. Photographers will appreciate the ease of use and shooting versatility offered by Optical Image Stabilisation and high sensitivity anti-blur systems, and Fujifilm's acclaimed Face Detection 2.0 Technology with automatic red-eye removal, while enjoying a wide dynamic range of 100-400% that's previously only been available to users of the highest-end D-SLR cameras, and film simulation modes that only Fujifilm can provide.
One-of-a-kind lens design for a one-of-a-kind camera
The FinePix S100FS represents the cutting edge of Fujifilm's imaging technology innovation, and redefines what users can expect from a compact digital camera. Through a unique collaboration between Fujifilm and Fujinon R&D engineers, the development team approached the process of designing this unique camera as a single project, creating the lens and CCD for express function as a single unit. This design allows the ultra-high precision Fujinon lens to achieve maximum resolution at all focal lengths of 28mm-400mm equivalent and maximum aperture of a bright F2.8 (wide angle) to F5.3 (telephoto). Because of the composite body and lens structure, there is no penetration of dirt and dust onto the CCD and the lens is perfectly matched to the sensor and perfectly aligned for the best possible results. The mechanical zoom offers framing with fingertip precision as well as offering a user experience that closely matches the use of a high end digital SLR.
A feature set borrowed from the FinePix S5 Pro
In the FinePix S100FS Fujifilm's engineers have incorporated some of the features from the award-winning FinePix S5 Pro D-SLR that have been most appreciated by professional photographers, including film simulation modes and settings that expand the camera's dynamic range. The FinePix S100FS has an extended dynamic range (100%, 200%, 400%) similar to that of negative film thanks to the newly developed low-noise 2/3-inch 11.1 Megapixel Super CCD VIII HR and the new RP Processor III. This unique technology preserves subtle highlights and shadow tones and prevents harsh clipping whatever the subject. Fujifilm's unique Film Simulation modes (FS) allow photographers to select the ideal "film" mode for the scene with a choice of four modes that optimise for portraiture, low-contrast (soft), vibrant colours (Velvia), or general use (Provia). Only Fujifilm has developed its camera technology from its photographic heritage in film, which allows the FinePix S100FS to capture subtle changes in tone and colour reproduction and provide the photographer the widest latitude for the ultimate creative expression.
Face Detection 2.0 with automatic red-eye removalFujifilm's proprietary Face Detection 2.0, featuring automatic red-eye removal was first seen on the award-winning FinePix F50fd. This one-touch selectable mode enables cameras such as the FinePix S100FS to detect up to 10 human faces in a scene, correcting focus, exposure and white balance automatically as fast as 0.05 seconds to ensure that photos of human faces are clear and properly exposed, no matter where subjects are located within the frame. Fujifilm's Face Detection 2.0 has an advantage over the other face detection systems currently on the market because it can identify faces at extreme angles – even in full profile. The system allows for up to a 90° movement in either direction for profiles and up to 135° for leaning or lying down in either direction, for a total range of 270°.
The automatic intelligent red-eye removal feature works in conjunction with Fujifilm's Face Detection 2.0, automatically correcting red eye directly after the shot is taken and then saving both the original image and the corrected file. The user can then perform a side-by-side picture comparison in playback mode and select the best image.
Other key features found on the FinePix S100FS include:
• Optical Image Stabilisation: The FinePix S100FS features Fujifilm's Optical Image Stabilisation technology to ensure clean, sharp and blur-free images, even in low-light conditions. This combines image stabilisation through a mechanically stabilised "floating" lens element to reduce blur from the photographer's hand-shake, with Fujifilm's Picture Stabilisation Technology, to reduce blur caused by subject movement, for the ultimate in stabilisation technology.
• Multi-Bracketing function: The FinePix S100FS has three bracketing functions useful for high level photography: Film Simulation Bracketing, Dynamic Range Bracketing and AE Bracketing.
• Comprehensive photographic controls: Including Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority exposure modes.
• High-speed shooting: Reliable high-speed performance is possible through Fujifilm's newly developed Super CCD VIII HR and the new RP (real photo) III Processor. At 3 Megapixels, a maximum of 50 continuous shots at 7 frames/second is possible. In addition, 14 scene settings and customer settings can be selected, as can four auto-focus modes offer convenient high-speed, high-precision shooting and focusing for a diverse range of conditions.
• Image formats: Capture images in both JPEG and RAW format.
• Movie Mode: Movie mode with sound at 30 frames per second in VGA quality, and zoom capable with manual zoom ring while in movie mode.
• xD/SD/SD-HC compatible slot: The FinePix S100FS features an xD/SD compatible slot which accepts not only Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Cards but also Secure Digital (SD) and SD-High Capacity/SD-HC cards too.
• 2.5" tiltable LCD: The FinePix S100FS features a tilting 2.5" LCD that makes it easy to frame shots from a variety of shooting positions.
Real Photo Technology
The secret to the FinePix S100FS's class-leading image quality is Fujifilm's unique Real Photo Technology (RPT).
With the human eye as the ideal, RPT continues to evolve and to set even higher standards for digital photography.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Digital Products, said: "The FinePix S100FS is an important and exciting new 'flagship' bridge for Fujifilm, designed from first principles for superb performance and offering cutting-edge technology and genuine innovation. For the consumer wanting the quality and versatility of an SLR without the weight, cost or bulk of extra lenses, we think the FinePix S100FS represents the most accomplished 'prosumer' model on the market."

Get the bigger picture with the FinePix S8100fd
Fujifilm UK today announced the launch of the long zoom, SLR-styled FinePix S8100fd digital camera, which combines user-friendliness with long-zoom versatility and high speed shooting modes that are rarely found in non-professional models.
Continuing on the success of the FinePix S8000fd, the 10 Megapixel FinePix S8100fdintegrates a Fujinon 18x wide angle optical zoom fixed lens (27mm-486mm equivalent), and new Zoom Bracketing and Instant Zoom modes give the user more flexibility than ever before. The sealed, fixed-lens system prevents dust contamination and eliminates the need for additional zoom or wide angle lenses, making it an easy-to-use, affordable alternative to the complex DSLR system.
The big zoom advantage
The FinePix S8100fd's 18x zoom lens – first seen on the FinePix S8000fd - is ready for every possible photographic challenge, from landscapes and interiors to wildlife and sports action.
The wide angle is perfect for large group shots and sweeping holiday landscapes; the long telephoto lens is capable of picking out a single face on a distant stage or playing field, offering an unparalleled range of creative opportunities without the need for add-on lenses or adapters.
Face Detection Technology
Fujifilm's award-winning Face Detection Technology has enabled a number of advanced features that will excite both novice and more experienced photographers and make getting perfect portraits easier than ever. Face Detection operates by identifying and prioritising up to 10 faces in a frame and then adjusting the focus and exposure accordingly to ensure the sharpness and clarity of human subjects in the picture, regardless of background. After the shot is captured the new automatic red-eye removal feature instantly checks each detected face for red-eye and if it's found, corrects it in the camera automatically, saving the time-consuming process of fixing it in your PC after the image is downloaded. A new Instant Zoom function captures moving subjects at high zoom settings. After zooming on a subject, a single button gives an additional 1.4x or 2x digital zoom at the centre focus region of the frame. Zoom Bracketing performs a similar action using Fujifilm's Face Detection Technology to lock its zoom action on a subject's face automatically as it enters the shot.
The FinePix S8100fd features Fujifilm's Dual Image Stabilisation combining mechanical sensor shift stabilisation with Fujifilm's Picture Stabilisation Technology, which uses fast shutter speeds and ISO levels of up to ISO 6400 (at 5 Megapixels) for total anti-blur protection. As a result the FinePix S8100fd produces sharp, blur-free photographs even in low light conditions. A Continuous Shooting Mode makes it easy to shoot moving subjects such as pets, kids and sports. This improved feature allows high-speed shooting of up to 33 frames at 13.5 frames per second (at 3 megapixels; 6.8 frames per second at 5 megapixels). With high-speed playback at 10 frames per second you can be sure you've captured all of the action.
Other features found on the FinePix S8100fd include:
• Intelligent Flash: Intelligent Flash detects subtle lighting differences within a scene and then varies the flash intensity accordingly. It also uses the high sensitivity of the FinePix S8100fdto enable the camera to use less flash, resulting in an image that displays natural tones without a washed-out effect. With an automatic pop-up flash, it's always ready when you need it.
• Full manual photographic control: Photo enthusiasts and advanced photographers have total control with manual adjustment options for various camera settings including resolution, ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and more.
• Scene modes: A wide range of 13 pre-programmed scene modes provides top-quality photos in a variety of shooting conditions.
• Super Macro Mode: Full-frame close-ups are easy with this new feature that lets the photographer to get as close as 1cm (0.4 inch).
• Dual Shot Mode: In this mode, the FinePix S8100fd quickly shoots two images in succession – one with and one without flash – saving both. This convenient function lets the user perform an on-the-spot comparison and decide whether the FinePix S8100fd produced the most pleasing photo with flash, or without.
• Movie Mode: VGA quality 30 frames per second with sound.
• High resolution LCD: The 2.5" Wide View LCD display offers 230,000 pixels of high resolution with a 60 frames per second refresh rate for smooth viewing.
• Electronic viewfinder (EVF): In addition to framing your shots with the 2.5" high resolution LCD, the FinePix S8100fd also offers a high resolution electronic viewfinder to eye up the best shot with an astonishing 60 fps refresh rate for smooth viewing.
• xD/SD/SD-HC compatible slot: A single media slot accepts not only Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Cards but also Secure Digital (SD) and SD-High Capacity (SD-HC) cards too.
• Operates on 4xAA batteries: The ultimate in convenience and accessibility, using AA batteries means in a pinch, more batteries are just moments away.
"The FinePix S8000fd set the standard for 'big zoom' consumer compacts," said Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Digital Products. "The FinePix S8100fd builds on this successful formula, adding genuinely useful new features and offering an affordable and uniquely versatile alternative to the bulk and expense of a digital SLR system."
Availability & pricing
The FinePix S8100fd will be available from UK retailers in March 2008. Pricing will be announced nearer to the date of the launch.*

Fujifilm introduces new J-series digital camera range
Fujifilm UK today announced the debut of a brand new J Series of digital cameras, with the FinePix J10 and J50. Designed for consumers seeking an affordable digital camera that doesn't compromise on features, the FinePix J10 and J50 provide powerful, easy to use models that fit into a pocket or handbag for instant accessibility. Housed in a compact body just 19mm thick, the FinePix J10 incorporates an 8.2 Megapixel CCD sensor, a 2.5" LCD and a 3x Fujinon optical zoom lens. The FinePix J50 takes things a step further, adding a high resolution 2.7", 230K pixel LCD and a powerful Fujinon 5x optical zoom that provides a 37mm-185mm equivalent focal length range. Despite the larger zoom and screen the FinePix J50's compact design is remarkably svelte, at only 23mm thick.
The FinePix J10 and J50 are available in either Matt Black or Brushed Silver. Both models use Fujifilm's Picture Stabilisation Mode to reduce blurry images that can be caused by camera shake or subject movement especially in low light settings. Automatically choosing the correct light sensitivity and best-matching shutter speed, the FinePix J10 and J50 help to freeze the action and produce the highest-quality digital pictures without the blur and noise often associated with low-light photographs.
Fujifilm's new J-series models also offer the following attractive features:
• Scene modes: Pre-programmed scene modes provide top-quality photos in a wide-range of shooting conditions. The FinePix J10 has 14 scene modes and the FinePix J50 has 15.
• Movie Mode: Capture QVGA quality movie clips at 30 frames per second with sound. Great for when you don't have your video camera to hand.
• xD/SD/SD-HC compatible slot: The FinePix J10 and J50feature an xD/SD compatible slot which accepts not only Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Cards but also Secure Digital (SD) and SD-High Capacity/SD-HC cards too.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Digital Products, said: "We set out to produce a range of affordable cameras that didn't compromise on features or styling. The new FinePix J10 and J50 offer just that; carry-anywhere portability combined with high quality results and impressive feature sets at pocket-friendly prices."

Get to the heart of the action with the Fujifilm FinePix S8000fd
Fujifilm today announced the latest addition to its award-winning range of SLR-like cameras in the shape of the FinePix S8000fd. Like its popular predecessors the new camera features a stylish lightweight, compact yet sturdy body, but with a significantly boosted feature set, including a hugely versatile 18x optical zoom, CCD-shift image stabilisation, 8 megapixel resolution and Fujifilm's ultra-fast Face Detection technology.
A world of shooting opportunities
The FinePix S8000fd's 18x zoom lens is ready for every possible photographic challenge thrown at it, from landscapes and interiors to wildlife and sports action. Covering a range equivalent to 27- 486mm on a 35mm camera, the FinePix S8000fd's zoom offers everything from true wide angle to extreme telephoto in a single compact unit.
The wide angle is perfect for large group shots and sweeping holiday landscapes; the long telephoto lens is capable of picking out a single face on a distant stage or playing field, offering an unparalleled range of creative opportunities without the need for add-on lenses or adapters.
Super sharp results throughout the zoom range
Photographs taken at very long telephoto settings – especially with a hand-held camera – present a real challenge and can often produce unsatisfactory results. The most common causes for lost shots are camera shake (which is magnified at longer focal lengths) and focus errors caused by the narrow depth of field. It can also be difficult to keep the camera steady enough to ensure the desired subject is in the centre of the frame when the shutter is pressed.
The FinePix S8000fd uses a combination of advanced technologies to ensure perfect results even at the longest telephoto settings - no matter how challenging the shooting conditions. CCD-shift image stabilisation helps combat the effects of camera shake, and high sensitivity settings of up to ISO 6400* keep shutter speeds high enough to avoid subject blur even in low light. Fujifilm's Face Detection technology locks onto faces – even at the full 18x zoom setting – and tracks them as they move around the frame, optimising focus and exposure for perfect results even if you can't hold the camera steady enough to keep the subject's face in the middle of the frame.
* ISO 3200 and 6400 at 4MP setting only
Face Detection
Fujifilm's Face Detection technology was originally developed for the company's photofinishing division, where it was used for reproducing the fine detail in people's faces in print. Face Detection works by triangulating eyes and mouth, using an algorithm to optimise focus, white balance and exposure for up to ten faces in a single frame. A green square surrounds the face of the primary subject on the camera's LCD screen, whilst white squares identify up to nine other subjects. Movement tracking keeps the camera 'locked on' to its subjects until they move out of the picture. The technology works irrespective of the subject's position in the frame, and is not confused by spectacles.
Say goodbye to red-eye – for good
Red eye is the single biggest reason why the best portraits are ruined. The FinePix S8000fd uses Face Detection technology to find and instantly correct any red eye from every face in the frame as the shot is taken.
The system on the FinePix S8000fd will only correct redness in the pupil of the eye, not elsewhere in the picture, because the camera uses eye detection within face detection to find the pupil. While other cameras can sometimes convert lips or red jewellery to brown or blue, the S8000fd never gets it wrong.
The FinePix S8000fd features Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system, which controls power output to achieve natural foreground illumination with balanced background exposure – no more blown out over-white faces or completely black backgrounds. Natural light plus Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession - one with, and one without, flash. Both photos are then displayed side by side for quick comparison so users won't miss the moment fiddling about with flash settings.
Real Photo Technology
Driving the FinePix S8000fd is Fujifilm's unique Real Photo Technology (RPT).
Family Friendly
This unique combination of technologies and easy to use features make the FinePix S8000fd the ideal camera for the active family. Ultra fast shooting at up to 15 frames per second** makes it easy to keep up with the action and the large, bright, high-resolution screen makes framing – and sharing - your pictures a pleasure. The S8000fd also features a high resolution electronic colour viewfinder for those who prefer to use their camera at eye level. A large 58MB internal memory is complemented by a dual slot for xD-Picture Card and SD / SDHC memory card formats. Advanced power management technology allows the FinePix S8000fd to shoot up to 400 pictures on a single set of four (optional) Ni-MH rechargeable batteries (200 shots using non-rechargeable Alkalines).
**at up to 2MP
Special scene modes
The camera's 16 scene positions include beach, sports, night and fireworks for point-and-shoot simplicity even with difficult photographic subjects. For users wanting total creative control the FinePix S8000fd also offers Aperture and Shutter Priority and Manual exposure modes and a 1cm Super Macro function for extreme close ups.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "With an 18x zoom, image stabilisation, Face Detection technology, and a wide range of creative, practical and fun features, the FinePix S8000fd is an impressive photographic tool at a remarkably attractive price. The combination of compact design, comfortable handling and powerful features has made Fujifilm's SLR-like cameras hugely popular, and this is the best one yet. "

Dare to be different with the Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd
Fujifilm is pleased to announce the launch of the new FinePix Z10fd, a camera for teens and young adults who want something more individual than 'yet another silver camera'. The FinePix Z10fd is a slim, metal-bodied 7.2 megapixel digital camera that puts the fun back into photography with a choice of seven bold, vibrant colours; Hot Pink, Wave Blue, Red, Midnight Black, Wasabi Green, Moss Green and Sunset Orange. It's not just the colours and the design of the Z10fd that will appeal – the camera hosts in an impressive list of features designed to capture the imagination of the young across the world.
Looks can be deceiving and this new camera from Fujifilm might be pretty, or even brash, but it has hidden depths too. Packed full of technological marvels that belie its diminutive size, the FinePix Z10fd promises fantastic photos, shot after shot. And its ultra-compact proportions mean it will fit into the most cramped of handbags or smallest of pockets, without ruining the lines of Saturday-night party clothes.
The FinePix Z10fd has been designed specifically with users in their teens and twenties in mind. It boasts Fujifilm's acclaimed Face Detection technology, which will seek out faces in the darkness of a party to give perfectly focused and exposed pictures every time. An ISO 1600 option means pictures can be taken in the poor light of parties or gigs, with no need for flash, so preserving the atmosphere and producing much more flattering portraits.
Photo sharing made simple
There's no fun in taking pictures if you can't share them, and the FinePix Z10fd makes it easier than ever with fast, easy wireless transfer of images between cameras using IrSimple™. Furthermore, the FinePix Z10fd features a unique 'Blog' mode that is ideal for producing photographs for upload to sites such as Flickr™, FaceBook™ or MySpace™. And for the YouTube™ generation, the Z10fd offers the option to capture internet-friendly QVGA movie clips in addition to sharp, colourful still photographs. The Z10fd even features an Auction mode, which will group a series of pictures ready for upload to eBay™. The camera controls have also been designed with the young in mind. The menus are accessed by two circular rocker buttons, while the new GUI (graphical user interface) is clear, easy to use and allows super-fast access to the camera's multitude of photographic features. There are also 16 scene modes, like 'portrait', 'party' or 'night', meaning great photos can be taken without the need for complex menu set up.
The FinePix Z10fd features a metal compact body that is less than 19mm thick, bright 2.5-inch screen and 54MB of internal memory that provides enough storage for up to 88 photographs (at 2MP setting). Dual xD-Picture Card and SD/SDHC compatibility gives users the freedom to choose from a wide range of high capacity memory cards.
To further enhance its portability the new camera features a sharp 3x Fujinon optical zoom lens that uses vertical internal optics to zoom, rather than extending from the camera body. This maintains the slim-line proportions so popular in Fujifilm's Z series cameras and ensures that, even if the camera accidentally powers-on in cramped surroundings, no harm will come to the lens – one of the most common concerns of standard cameras.
Feature rich
Despite its affordable price, the FinePix Z10fd features many Fujifilm technologies that fans will recognize from its more expensive stable-mates. It continues the Fujifilm tradition of offering the user choice about lighting, and those who prefer to use flash will benefit from Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system. Intelligent Flash automatically assesses the scene and sets power output so that it provides enough light for the photo, without giving friends the ghostly bleached-out look that can occur with built-in flash. For times when it's not clear whether flash is appropriate, the FinePix Z10fd's Natural Light & Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession, one with flash and one without. Both photos are then displayed side by side for quick comparison and one or the other can be deleted at a later date.
Face Detection
The FinePix Z10fd makes perfect portraits simple with Fujifilm's Face Detection technology.
Say goodbye to red-eye – for good
Red-eye is the single biggest reason why the best portraits are ruined. The FinePix Z10fd uses Face Detection technology to find and instantly correct any red-eye from every face in the frame. Getting the camera's on-board processor to do this fiddly retouch is so much easier (and accurate) than trying to do it on a complex photo manipulation package.
The system on the FinePix Z10fd will only correct redness in the pupil of the eye, not elsewhere in the picture, because the camera uses eye detection within Face Detection to find the pupil. While other cameras can sometimes convert lips or red jewellery to brown or blue, the Z10fd never gets it wrong, and it only takes a couple of seconds.
Real Photo Technology
Even the novice photographer will be ensured of bright, sharp colourful pictures from the FinePix Z10fd thanks to Fujifilm's unique Real Photo Technology (RPT).
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "The whole point of being a teenager is not to conform, especially where style is concerned, so we thought it was high-time we launched a camera specifically for that generation. What's more, camera-phones have meant that teenagers have a 'snap-as-you-go' approach to photography, documenting much more of their lives in this way than previous generations. And the sheer volume of technology that surrounds them means they're much more tech-savvy than their parents ever were. All-in-all, we think this generation is crying out for a standalone digital camera that will take much better quality photos than they get from their phone, but is much more unique, and affordable, than the majority of cameras on the market today. We hope the FinePix Z10fd will provide the solution."
FinePix Z10fd features at a glance• Slim, stylish lightweight metal body in seven bold colours
• 7.2 megapixel CCD sensor
• 3x optical zoom lens (38-110mm equivalent)
• Face Detection Technology and automatic intelligent red-eye removal
• 54MB internal memory plus xD-Picture card, SD and SDHC compatibility

• Large 2.5-inch high resolution screen
• Blog mode and easy to use subject modes
• IR Communication (IR simple) for fast camera to camera picture sharing
• QVGA movie capture of 30 frames per second with sound
• PictBridge™ compatible for direct printing without a PC

Fujifilm launches FinePix F50fd
Fujifilm today announced the launch of the FinePix F50fd, the successor to the award-winning FinePix F31fd. Packed with innovative technology and introducing exclusive new features, the FinePix F50fd is designed to make it easier than ever to get perfect pictures and stunning portraits in even the most challenging situations. The all-new sleek and slim metal body is a mere 22.9mm thick and the 'Aero curve' design means that the FinePix F50fd isn't just capable of taking beautiful pictures; it's stylish and slim enough to slip into any pocket or purse. Dual xD-Picture Card and SD/SDHC compatibility gives users the freedom to choose from a wide range of high capacity memory cards.
Cutting edge performance
So many of the most important pictures we take are in low light, yet this is the area where compact digital cameras have always produced the least satisfactory results. This is why Fujifilm's engineers have put so much effort into improving the low light capabilities of the FinePix range of cameras.
The TIPA and DIMA award-winning FinePix F30 set the standard for low light photography. The FinePix F50fd builds on this heritage with a larger than average 1/1.6 inch 12 megapixel Seventh Generation Super CCD HR sensor and Real Photo Processor II. Together these allow ultra high-resolution capture with breathtaking detail, even at high ISO settings. The newly developed sensor design features several key improvements that increase the efficiency with which each pixel gathers light, and an enhanced two-stage noise reduction system ensures that noise is kept to a minimum without valuable detail being lost. Despite doubling the number of pixels, the new sensor offers similar performance to the groundbreaking FinePix F30 and F31fd at sensitivity settings up to ISO 3200. For shooting in the very lowest light without compromising image quality, the FinePix F50fd offers sensitivity modes of up to ISO 6400 at lower resolutions (ISO 3200: 6MP, ISO 6400: 3MP).
For those occasions when flash is required, Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system sets the power output to achieve natural foreground illumination with balanced background exposure. Avoiding both the messy background blur of 'slow-sync' flash, and the stark contrast of conventional flash, Intelligent Flash results in visibly more pleasing, natural looking photos. For times when a decision about lighting could mean a missed photo opportunity, the FinePix F50fd's Natural Light plus Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession, one with flash and one without, then displays them side-by-side for instant comparison.
New Dual Image Stabilisation
As well as offering class-leading high ISO performance for avoiding subject blur when shooting in low light, the FinePix F50fd also features CCD-shift image stabilisation for avoiding the effects of camera shake at longer shutter speeds. The combination of high ISO and CCD-shift offers a complete system for avoiding blur caused by hand shake or subject motion. Never before has a compact camera offered such a comprehensive solution for avoiding blurred results whilst retaining high-resolution photographic quality.
New Face Detection 2.0 – from any angle
The F50fd is the first FinePix model to feature the second generation of Fujifilm's ultra-fast Face Detection technology. Face Detection 2.0 offers dramatic performance and capability improvements and adds innovative new features designed to turn everyday snaps into stunning portraits.
The technology works irrespective of the subject's position in the frame, and is not confused by spectacles
In developing the second generation of Face Detection technology, the key goal of Fujifilm's engineers was to remove the limitations of all such systems whilst retaining the class-leading 0.05 second detection speed. The result was Face Detection 2.0, a state-of-the-art system that dramatically expands the capabilities of the original system.
Most face detection systems work only when the subject (or subjects) are looking directly at the camera, and most cannot detect a face if it is at too steep an angle (such as when the person is resting their head on someone's shoulder or lying down). Face Detection 2.0 can detect a subject in full profile and at virtually any angle (through 270 degrees), even if they are moving within the frame. The FinePix F50fd allows you to shoot natural portraits and capture the expressions of friends and family, safe in the knowledge that the exposure, focus and white balance will be perfectly optimised for the most important thing in the frame; the faces of your subjects. Photographing children who won't sit still has never been easier.
In Playback mode, Face Detection will automatically zoom in to subjects' faces – one by one if there are several in the frame - and optionally trim the shot and save a close-up 'portrait' shot in-camera. A new slideshow feature zooms in on detected faces during playback and lets you enjoy them as a slideshow.
New Say goodbye to red-eye – for good
Red eye is the single biggest reason why the best portraits are ruined. The FinePix F50fd uses Face Detection technology to find and instantly correct any red eye from every face in the frame - either as the shot is taken or in playback.
Other red eye correction systems do exist in the market, but many are prone to error. Some systems incorrectly change other red elements in the picture, like jewellery or even the subject's lips (because the red eye system is not set within the face detection process), or can only be used in playback mode, or are just too slow. The new F50fd finds red eye only in the pupil of the eye, and corrects the error in less than two seconds.
New Portrait Enhancer
The FinePix F50fd sees the debut of an exciting new feature designed to transform a snapshot into an exceptional portrait. In Portrait Enhancer mode the FinePix F50fd's powerful automatic retouching system gives skin tones a silky-smooth texture and removes blemishes such as spots and wrinkles. Once they've seen the beautiful skin tones produced by the Portrait Enhancer, the loved ones in your life will never again hide their faces whenever you get your camera out!
New 2.7 inch LCD screen
The FinePix F50fd features a large high-resolution 2.7 inch, 230,000 pixel LCD screen, which is coated with Fujifilm's proprietary Wide View film. This minimises glare and reflections, and also enables consumers to view the LCD from any angle (even in sunny conditions), to enable shooting from waist level or above the head, or to make picture playback to a group so much easier.
Special scene modes
The camera's 16 scene positions include beach, snow and fireworks for optimum photography, no matter what the event. For the more advanced user the FinePix F50fd also features Aperture and Shutter Priority modes for total creative control.
Real Photo Technology
The secret to the FinePix F50fd's class-leading image quality is Fujifilm's unique Real Photo Technology (RPT).
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "The FinePix F31fd was always going to be a hard act to follow, but with the FinePix F50fd we are confident that we've redefined what a compact digital camera is capable of. With its mix of style, cutting-edge features and class-leading image quality the FinePix F50fd is an exciting product that builds on the qualities of its predecessors whilst adding a wealth of features and is designed to take compact digital photography to a new level."e;

The modifications to the FinePix S5700 mean it is easier to use than anything that has gone before. It will be a faithful companion for any and every event, from nights out or the kids' school play or sports day, right through to countryside walks and family holidays. It's the ultimate camera for every occasion and perfect for users who always want a camera to hand, but prefer to get creative, not technical, with their photography.
Key improvements of the FinePix S5700 over its predecessor include:
- An enhanced ergonomic design of even smaller proportions, which make the camera portable and easy to hold in one hand, whilst retaining its powerful 10x optical zoom.
- ISO sensitivity up to 1600, guaranteeing crisp images, with no need for flash, even on a night out or when snapping moving subjects.
- The introduction of Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash and Natural light plus Flash modes for images that are faithful to the original scene, even when flash is required.
- 2.5-inch, 230,000-pixel screen, making it much easier for users to compose, review and share images.
- Dual compatibility for Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Card™ and the popular Secure Digital (SD) card format, providing a greater choice of storage options.

The FinePix S5700's ISO 1600 sensitivity means photos can be taken in low light, without flash, resulting in much more natural looking shots that are closer in colour and tone to the original scene. When flash is preferred, over-bright faces and disappearing backdrops become a thing of the past thanks to the introduction of Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system, which controls power output to achieve natural foreground illumination with balanced background exposure. Natural light plus Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession - one with, and one without, flash. Both photos are then displayed side by side for quick comparison so users will never again be left struggling with flash settings long after the moment has passed.
The FinePix S5700 was developed with usability firmly in mind. Thanks to its sturdy design and lightweight proportions it's ideal for people seeking fun and point-and-shoot simplicity from a camera that will produce top-quality images, no matter what the subject. Users of all abilities can experiment with different angles, subjects and distances and an array of special scene modes, accessible for the first time via the FinePix S5700's new mode dial, mean the right settings are just one touch away. The camera's powerful zoom lens, with new 'rocker' control for fingertip zooming, means nothing is out of its reach.
The integrated Fujinon lens also means users will never have to contend with dust on the sensor or need to invest in more equipment. The lens itself is more compact than its predecessor's, but retains the flexible zoom range from wide angle to telephoto, enabling users to shoot from distance or close up. A fixed lens housing also ensures fast start-up time of just 1.1 seconds, so the moment will never be missed.
Fujifilm's Anti-Blur mode, which makes use of the camera's ISO 1600 sensitivity and an ultra-fast shutter speed combine to combat the effects of subject and camera movement. For those also keen to capture moving images, the FinePix S5700 has a movie recording mode with sound, ideal for creating high quality home movies without relying on a separate camcorder.
FinePix S5700 features at a glance:
- 7.1 million effective pixels
- ISO 100 – 1600 sensitivity range
- Compact lens with 10x optical zoom
- Easy-to-use mode dial and 'rocker' zoom function

Fujifilm FinePix F40fd Introduced
Fujifilm is pleased to announce the launch of the FinePix F40fd, the latest in its flagship range of F series compact digital cameras. Featuring Fujifilm's proprietary Real Photo Processor II, Super CCD HR VI and hardware-based Face Detection, the new model continues the F series tradition of delivering sophisticated technology and compact, straightforward design. Added to this, ISO 2000 sensitivity at full 8.3 megapixel resolution, 3.0x optical zoom lens and 300 shot battery life make it perfect for prolific snappers or enthusiast photographers who need a high-performance take-anywhere digital camera.
In a first for FinePix cameras the FinePix F40fd features a dual memory card slot, which accepts not only Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Card™ but also the popular Secure Digital (SD) card format.
The new camera also debuts a redesigned outer-shell and Graphical User Interface (GUI) system for Fujifilm's F series. More slim line than its predecessor, at just 23.3mm deep, and available in three colours; silver, gunmetal and blue, the FinePix F40fd is even more pocketable and has a design that reflects the sophisticated technology within. Enhanced 2.5" LCD screen with Fujifilm's wide view filter expands viewing angle by up to 25 degrees compared to earlier models. Furthermore, a new mode dial, for faster access to popular settings, improved button layout and intuitive GUI system, with pop-up prompts to guide the user through the menu, make the camera easier than ever to use.
Real Photo Technology
Fujifilm's Real Photo Technology brings together CCD, processor and lens to deliver images of optimum quality that are rich in colour, detail and sharpness and low in noise. Fujifilm's proprietary Super CCD HR VI is a unique octagonal shape, which means it has a larger surface area than traditional sensors, making it more sensitive to light. This gives Fujifilm's FinePix cameras their unique High ISO sensitivity ratings. It also means faster shutter speeds can be used to capture images; combating image blur. The design of the Super CCD also makes it less prone to noise; the grainy, speckled effect that can occur, especially at higher ISO settings. The FinePix F40fd achieves ISO 2000 (1600 selectable) at full resolution, which means there is no trade off between ISO setting and image sharpness, or the size of the print that can be made.
The RP Processor II featured on the FinePix F40fd features double noise reduction. It has proven capability of delivering images with significantly less noise than some competing models at a lower ISO. Furthermore, Fujifilm's Fujinon lenses are the product of over seven decades of R&D into lens technology; completing the triangle of lens, CCD and processor all optimised to work in harmony together. The result is photographs of unrivalled quality no matter what the subject or level of light.
Face Detection
The FinePix F40fd is Fujifilm's fourth digital camera to feature hard-wired Face Detection technology, joining the FinePix S6500fd, F31fd and Z5fd in Fujifilm's current range. It is the result of Fujifilm research demonstrating that most photos are taken of people in low light conditions; and that these situations are also when most photos go wrong. Face Detection ensures the camera prioritises faces in the frame above other details; even if those details are a more obvious focus point. For example, when subjects are off centre or standing with the light behind them. Because the technology is hard-wired to the camera's processor, it is capable of detecting faces and taking a photo in an industry-leading 0.05 seconds.
Face Detection works by triangulating eyes and mouth, using an algorithm to optimise focus and exposure for up to ten faces in a single frame.
In Playback mode, Face Detection will automatically zoom in to subjects' faces and trim the shot for optimum portraits.
Making light work of photography
Fujifilm's Super CCD ensures that, in the majority of cases, photographers can choose to take photographs without any use of flash. However, when flash is needed or preferred, Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system analyses the subject of the photo and sets power output accordingly. The result is much more natural looking images, with true-to-life colour reproduction and balanced background and foreground exposure. When combined with Face Detection, the system prioritises flash settings for reproduction of the best possible skin-tones, avoiding the ghostly, white-faced effect of traditional on-camera flash.
Natural Light & Flash mode goes one step further, taking two photos in quick succession – one without flash, and one with. Both photos are then displayed side by side for easy comparison.
With 14 special scene position modes, including Underwater, Snow, Night and Close-up, the FinePix F40fd is ideally suited to any photo opportunity. When a still image isn't sufficient, the camera's movie mode, at 30 frames per second, captures movie clips with sound that are limited in length only by the size of memory card used.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, says: "Fujifilm's F series cameras lead the way in low light photography. The FinePix F40fd further establishes the series as champions of our proven Real Photo Technology. Face Detection, Intelligent Flash and class-leading sensitivity combine to achieve the high image quality that people have come to associate with Fujifilm cameras."

FinePix A800 and A610 strengthen Fujifilm's entry level A series
Fujifilm today announced two new additions to its entry-level A series, the FinePix A610 and FinePix A800. In a first for Fujifilm's A series, both cameras feature the company's proprietary Super CCD HR sensor and RP (Real Photo) Processor together, making it possible to capture sharp images and more detail, with less noise. Fujifilm's 'Real Photo Technology' cameras combine lens, CCD and processor, optimised to work together for best results.
In another first for Fujifilm's FinePix cameras, both models feature a dual memory card slot, which accepts not only Fujifilm's traditional xD-Picture Card™ but also the popular Secure Digital (SD) card format.
Fujifilm's A series cameras are easy to use, with an intuitive button layout and straightforward access menus. They are a good investment for families who want a reliable, affordable take-anywhere camera that everyone can use, which captures great photos with minimum fuss.
The FinePix A800 features 8.3 megapixels, selectable sensitivity up to ISO 800 and a 3x optical zoom, whilst the FinePix A610 couples 6.1 megapixels and selectable sensitivity up to ISO 400 with a 3x optical zoom.
Users will immediately appreciate the benefits of Fujifilm's Super CCD sensor. The increased surface area means it is more sensitive to light, enabling faster shutter speeds to help reduce image blur and the need for flash when taking photos in lower light. When extra illumination is required, Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system analyses the subject and sets power output accordingly. This overcomes the traditional problem of flooding the foreground with harsh light, leaving subjects in the frame looking 'ghostly' and the background in darkness.
Multiple scene modes make it possible for everyone to take first-rate photos in a range of situations. The new Baby mode is ideal for parents, ensuring babies' skin tones are reproduced naturally. Sports mode means action shots will suffer from less blur. The FinePix A800 also features a newly designed mode dial, so that users can quickly select scene position modes using just their thumb.
Framing and reviewing photographs is made easy thanks to a large 2.5" LCD monitor, with an anti-reflective coating to prevent glare when shooting in bright daylight.
Both cameras are powered by two AA-size batteries.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "These cameras significantly bolster Fujifilm's A series, and for the first time, introduce technology from our higher-end cameras to our entry level models, demonstrating our commitment to first time users. Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro: an expert blend of image and handling
Announcement Date: 25 September 2006
Release of much-anticipated Fujifilm DSLR for early 2007
Fujifilm today announces the development of the FinePix S5 Pro, the keenly-awaited successor to the acclaimed FinePix S3 Pro. In a DSLR market that is much more competitive and dynamic than the one its predecessor was launched into, the FinePix S5 Pro will stand apart from the crowd by combining the much sought-after picture quality of Fujifilm's Super CCD SR sensor with a fully digital and durable professional metal alloy body. With this superior combination of truly professional handling and image quality, Fujifilm expects the FinePix S5 Pro to appeal to an even broader range of professional photographers.
Fujifilm's ultimate goal in development of its DSLR cameras has been to maximise image quality through constant research and development into its sensor technology. With the introduction six years ago of its acclaimed Super CCD, Fujifilm moved away from increasing the pixel density of its sensors in favour of image quality developments that increase the overall performance of the sensor. The FinePix S5 Pro will see the refinement of a winning formula – Fujifilm's Super CCD SR II will be updated to the new Super CCD SR Pro. Using a unique layout of twelve million paired photodiodes (6.17 million larger 'S' photodiodes for main image information, combined with 6.17 million smaller 'R' photodiodes for bright area information), the S5 Pro will deliver improvements in noise, dynamic range, colour and tonality. Further improving the capability of the sensor, a new, improved low-pass filter will ensure that moiré and noise are kept to an absolute minimum. Fujifilm believes improvements in these key areas will be of more true value to professional photographers – the challenge is quality of information, not quantity of information.
The redesigned Super CCD SR Pro sensor will be at the centre of the camera's performance. However the new Real Photo Processor Pro will ensure that the information is handled in such a way to produce images that are beautifully vibrant, with colour recorded as the human eye sees it. The processor's two stages of noise reduction will deliver an impeccably clean image, and also permit light sensitivity up to ISO 3200 whilst achieving sharp, low-noise images. A new dark noise reduction process, subtracting the residual, ambient noise on the sensor from the actual exposure, helps the camera produce smooth, clean images when long shutter speeds are used.
The FinePix S5 Pro will also introduce one particularly sought-after feature; the ability to record jpeg and RAW files simultaneously to the card. This will enable photographers to view and distribute smaller-sized jpegs, whilst retaining the ability to work on the larger RAW files later on a PC or Mac. This dual option is available with a variety of image sizes, giving the option to store either a small, emailable file size, or a larger, more detailed jpeg.
With its predecessor achieving recognition for its excellent ergonomics, the FinePix S5 Pro will take the system into a different league, using a tough, professional magnesium alloy shell. With weatherproof seals, and first-rate design, the S5 Pro will be a camera truly deserving of the term 'workhorse', equally at home in the studio as on a nature assignment in a humid rainforest. The camera's shutter mechanism will be testament to its durability, as it has been tested to exceed the key benchmark of 100,000 cycles.
The FinePix S5 Pro will also afford the user much greater control over the unique image parameters that its technology provides. Six stepped dynamic range settings between 100% (normal dynamic range) and 400% (dynamic range expanded by two stops) will enable the photographer to achieve exactly the tonal feel to their images that they want. In addition, three distinct settings for the 'negative film' preset option will further enhance the customisable nature of the camera, giving portrait photographers precisely the 'look' that they have in their mind's eye.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "The development of the FinePix S5 Pro reflects Fujifilm's commitment to the professional photographer. We remain determined to develop professional level products with the sort of image quality that made the FinePix S3 Pro a favourite among studio, portrait and wedding photographers. The introduction of the FinePix S5 Pro brings heightened performance, handling and image quality to our DSLR product group and we expect this to attract an increasingly diverse range of professional users. These are exciting times for us."

Fujifilm launches FinePix F31fd
Announcement Date: 25 September 2006
Fujifilm today announced the launch of the FinePix F31fd, its first pocketable digital camera to feature hardware-based Face Detection technology, which debuted with the announcement of the FinePix S6500fd in July 2006. Face Detection has great impact on people photography, ensuring the camera automatically focuses on and exposes for faces, rather than details that can confuse other cameras. Coping with up to ten faces in a frame, it ensures photos of friends and family are crisp, clear and perfectly exposed no matter what the occasion. Because Fujifilm's Face Detection technology is built-in to the camera's processor, it is able to identify faces, optimise settings and take the photo within just 0.05 seconds.
The FinePix F31fd inherits its feature set from its older brother, the TIPA and DIMA award winning FinePix F30. In particular its unrivalled low-light performance of ISO 3200 at full resolution, made possible by Fujifilm's acclaimed Real Photo Processor II, combines with Face Detection to make the FinePix F31fd the ultimate compact for people photography. With Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens, 6 megapixel Super CCD HR VI, 2.5 inch LCD screen and unique Fujifilm technologies such as Intelligent Flash, the FinePix F31fd is perfect for anyone looking for a camera that will rise to any occasion.
The camera's fast response times, 0.01 second shutter lag and 1.5 second start-up time, ensure it will catch all the action and spell the end for missed photo opportunities. Its 580-shot battery life makes it an ideal constant companion for days out or weekends away without the worry of missed photo opportunities thanks to a spent battery.
Face Detection
Fujifilm's Face Detection technology was originally developed for the company's photofinishing division, where it was used for reproducing the fine detail in people's faces in print. In developing the technology for use in FinePix cameras, Fujifilm's research & development team's challenge was to make it fast, otherwise the feature would never be anything more than a novelty. In achieving a response time of 0.05 seconds, Fujifilm's Face Detection becomes a genuinely useful tool for capturing photos of friends and family that are perfectly focused and exposed to prioritise the people in the frame.
Face Detection works by triangulating eyes and mouth, using an algorithm to optimise focus and exposure for up to ten faces in a single frame.
In Playback mode, Face Detection will automatically zoom in to subjects' faces and trim the shot for optimum portraits.
A low light landmark
The launch of the FinePix F30 set standards for low light photography, with sensitivity at full resolution of ISO 3200. With the launch of the FinePix F31fd, Fujifilm's compact digital cameras remain leaders in their class for low-light performance. These qualities, combined with the camera's Anti-blur mode, mean that subject and camera movement do not result in blurred images.
Fujifilm has identified low light photography as one of the true benchmarks of a digital camera's performance, as most images are taken when the light is limited and flash often leaves subjects looking bleached white, whilst rendering the background invisible. The product of over 60 years' accumulated sensor technology, Fujifilm's Real Photo Processor II enables the ISO 3200 sensitivity of the original FinePix F30, and now the FinePix F31fd. This makes flash-free photography possible with natural illumination, balanced foreground and background exposure and no subject blurring, in even the dimmest conditions. Fujifilm's Real Photo Technology means images taken at the highest sensitivity of ISO 3200 suffer from less noise than some others at 1600. Furthermore, because the camera requires no decrease in resolution at its highest ISO setting, images can be printed at previously unachievable sizes with no loss of quality.
For those occasions when flash is required, Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system sets flash power output to achieve natural foreground illumination with balanced background exposure. Avoiding both the messy background blur of 'slow-sync' flash, and the stark contrast of conventional flash, Intelligent Flash results in visibly more pleasing, natural looking photos. For times when a decision about lighting could mean a missed photo opportunity, the FinePix F31fd's Natural Light & Flash mode takes two photos in quick succession, one with flash and one without, then displays them side-by-side for instant comparison.
2.5 inch LCD screen
The FinePix F31fd features a large 2.5 inch, 230,000 pixel LCD screen, which is coated with Fujifilm's proprietary CV film. This minimises glare and reflections so that images can be viewed from any angle and even in sunny conditions, when glare would usually be a problem. In addition, the screen's brightness adjusts automatically, depending on the amount of light available, to further enhance ease of viewing.
Special scene modes
The camera's 15 scene positions include beach, snow and fireworks for optimum photography, no matter what the event. Its underwater scene mode acts in the same way as a red filter and, when teamed with the WP-FXF30 underwater housing, ensures underwater images from diving and snorkelling are as colourful and vibrant as the human eye sees them.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "The FinePix F31fd has a commercially successful and award-winning predecessor but still manages to build on this high standard. We introduced Face Detection in July this year with the launch of the FinePix S6500fd. However, the FinePix F31fd marks its first appearance in a pocket-sized digital camera. This is a significant step because it introduces high-level photographic technology to a wider market of digital camera buyers. It is a quick, efficient and user-friendly detection system. Add this to award winning features such as ISO 3200 at full resolution and you have an incredibly powerful camera married with absolute convenience and pocketability."
FinePix F31fd features at a glance
- Face Detection Technology built-in to the camera's processor
- Real Photo Processor II and new Super CCD HR VI
- ISO 3200 sensitivity at full resolution
- 6.3 million pixels
- 3.0x optical zoom

Fujifilm FinePix S9600: improving an enthusiasts' favourite
Announcement Date: 24 August 2006
Fujifilm today announced the release of the FinePix S9600, replacement to the critically acclaimed FinePix S9500 and the new flagship in Fujifilm's range of 'prosumer' digital cameras. The new model features carefully considered modifications designed to improve image quality as well as making it easier to use and better performing in low light. Refinements include increased image sharpness, a more generous LCD screen, faster autofocus in low light and improvements to the camera's flash capability. These features combine with existing Fujifilm technologies to result in user-friendliness more usually associated with compact digital cameras, and a performance to challenge entry-level digital SLRs.
An incredibly versatile camera designed for serious hobbyist and enthusiast photographers, the nine megapixel FinePix S9600 features Fujifilm's successful Super CCD HR sensor and Real Photo Processor II, delivering IS0 1600 performance and enabling capture of crisp and clear images even in low light conditions.
Fujinon 10.7x optical zoom lens
The camera's 10.7x (28-300mm 35mm equivalent) zoom lens incorporates aspherical elements that result in a sharper image. The aspherical elements in the lens ensure that the path of light is as precise as possible, which in turn minimises distortion and aberrations. The lens is easily controlled via a manual zoom ring to give pinpoint accuracy when composing images. Furthermore, its fixed housing ensures that users do not have to contend with specks of dust or dirt collecting on the sensor. This can compromise image quality and is a drawback often associated with conventional digital SLRs.
Improved image quality and autofocus
Image quality in the FinePix S9600 has been enhanced through improvements to its processing algorithms, which result in improved image sharpness and resolution. Composition of photographs is made easier with an increased-size two-inch tilting LCD monitor, providing even clearer, flexible shooting at awkward high or low angles. A higher resolution of 230,000-pixels gives greater screen clarity. Composition of photographs using the LCD screen further differentiates the camera from conventional digital SLRs, which rely solely on a viewfinder for composition and make use of the LCD screen for image playback only.
Fujifilm continually strives to achieve better performance in low light. In these conditions, the FinePix S9600 has an autofocus response time that is up to 40 per cent quicker than its predecessor. In addition to the camera's 0.01 second shutter-lag and 0.8 second start-up time, this means that images can be composed and captured almost instantaneously. Combined with Fujifilm's acclaimed high ISO performance, which combats image blur caused by subject movement as well as camera shake, the FinePix S9600's responsiveness makes it an ideal tool for enthusiast photographers looking to photograph fast paced subjects such as those at sporting events or in the wild.
Intelligent Flash system
In another advance on its predecessor, the FinePix S9600 features Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system, which delivers balanced flash power output. Historically, using flash at night has resulted in unsatisfying backgrounds, be it the black, underexposed appearance of conventional flash or the blurred 'swirl' of slow-sync flash. By comparison, Intelligent Flash means that images captured in low light have not only a blur-free well-exposed background but also natural-looking foreground illumination, free from the stark brightness that can be a by-product of flash photography.
Software and optional accessories
Enthusiast photographers will appreciate the Hyper Utility Software HS-V2 version 3 that is bundled as standard for the first time with the FinePix S9600. This software gives full functionality in RAW file conversion, which enables the photographer to explore the control and flexibility enjoyed when working with a 'lossless' file format.
The FinePix S9600's optional Wide Conversion Lens, WL-FXS6 , expands the camera's wide-angle capability without compromising image quality. It allows the extreme angles of view normally only available with changeable lenses on an SLR camera. Also available is an optional premium leather case.
The camera comes with shoulder strap, USB and A/V cables, Lens cap and hood and, in addition to the new Hyper Utility Software, also comes with USB driver, FinePix Viewer ImageMixer VCD2 for FinePix and RAW File Converter LE.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said: "Digital SLRs are steadily dropping in price, which has increasingly made them an option for non-professional photographers. However, this affordability does not necessarily mean they are the best choice of camera, especially if the photographer is used to the flexibility and convenience that compact digital cameras can offer. The FinePix S9600 fills the gap between two worlds by combining the usability of a compact with performance that can challenge an entry-level digital SLR."
Availability & pricing
The FinePix S9600 will be available from UK retailers in October 2006. Pricing and stockists will be announced nearer to the date of retail launch.

Underwater housings for FinePix F30 Zoom, A500 and A400 Zoom cameras
3 August 2006: Fujifilm today announced the release of a durable underwater housing unit for the TIPA and DIMA award-winning* FinePix F30 Zoom. The WP-FXF30 is a sturdy, watertight casing that keeps the camera dry and copes with the pressure of dives as deep as 40 metres. It also gives protection on a sandy beach, from splashed water or bad weather on boats and in snowy conditions. So once you're done diving in summer you can ride the slopes with it in winter.
In addition, Fujifilm has released its first waterproof case for entry-level cameras. The WP-FXA500 is suitable for the FinePix A400 and A500 Zooms and is waterproof at depths of up to 3 metres.

New Fujifilm FinePix S6500fd
Fujifilm today announces the launch of the FinePix S6500fd digital camera, debuting industry-first hardware based Face Detection technology to enable the camera to recognise faces and optimise settings to get the best photograph in just 0.04 seconds. With Fujifilm's acclaimed sixth generation, six megapixel Super CCD sensor and Real Photo Technology II, class-leading ISO 100-3200 sensitivity and Fujinon 10.7x (28-300mm equivalent) optical zoom lens, the FinePix S6500fd combines the photographic possibilities of a digital SLR with the ease of use of a compact.
Fujifilm expects the FinePix S6500fd to be a popular camera for hobbyist photographers. It will be a powerful, fun tool for people looking to move on from their compact digital camera, but who don't want the restrictions or level of manual input that can be required by a Digital SLR.
Face detection
Photographs of friends and family are among the most popular in day-to-day photography. Yet these are the shots that are hardest to get right because the best photographs are not the posed ones, but those that are unexpected. Previously, face detection concepts have been a slow, software based process, relegating them to a novelty feature rather than a powerful picture-taking tool. The potential delay in 'seeing' a face and optimising settings is not conducive to good people photography. Crucially, Fujifilm has built its Face Detection technology into the FinePix S6500fd's processor, enabling it to identify faces and take a photo within 0.04 seconds.
The FinePix S6500fd's Face Detection uses an algorithm, which recognises eyes and a mouth to lock on to faces in the frame. Coping with up to ten faces in a frame, it optimises settings such as focus and exposure level before taking the photo. Face Detection can identify a face irrespective of its position in the frame or the composition of the shot, and is not confused by spectacles. Furthermore, movement tracking ensures the camera stays locked on the subject until they move out of the frame. All this, combined with split-second accuracy, results in picture-perfect people shots with no need for user intervention.
High sensitivity for precision photography
Alongside Face Detection, the FinePix S6500 features Fujifilm's Real Photo Processor II technology, delivering class-leading ISO 100-3200 sensitivity. Research shows that the majority of photos are taken in low light with the subject in the foreground. These shots can be problematic because of blur, or because the subject is over-exposed by an automatic flash. The high ISO of the FinePix S6500fd means that sharp, focused images can be achieved in low light without the need for a flash, so skin tones look natural and foreground and background exposure remain balanced. When used in conjunction with Face Detection, the result is natural-looking people pictures that appear just as the human eye sees them, even when shot in low light.
The FinePix S6500fd features a Fujinon 10.7x optical zoom lens with twist barrel control to give plenty of scope for precision composition. Because the camera's high ISO sensitivity also combats image blur, the user can even achieve sharp, clean images at the telephoto end of the zoom; perfect for fast-moving sports photography. Its fixed lens also prevents dust collecting on its sensor, another convenience factor versus DSLRs.
For flash photography, the camera features Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system, which automatically balances flash power output and exposure for both foreground and background. This ensures more natural-looking skin tones and clearer background exposure when using the flash function. In addition, a 'Natural Light & Flash' Dual Shot Mode takes two shots in quick succession, one with flash and one without. These are then displayed side by side for immediate comparison.
The FinePix S6500fd also features a High Speed Shooting Mode with rapid focus and a shutter lag of just 0.035 seconds.
The 2.5" LCD screen and high resolution electronic viewfinder give the user a choice of how to compose and view images. With fourteen special-scene modes, including Portrait, Landscape, Sport, Night, Fireworks, Sunset, Snow, Beach, Museum and Party, the FinePix S6500fd ensures users will never miss an opportunity for a great photo. A 30 fps VGA movie mode with sound and manual zoom capability provides an attractive alternative to still photography that can not be incorporated into a digital SLR.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products said, "The FinePix S6500fd is aimed at people for whom photography is a hobby. They want to be able to get fantastic images but also want the option of point-and-shoot simplicity on demand. With Face Detection and incredibly high sensitivity, this camera does a particularly good job of photographing the most important subject of them all: people. This model is all about combining absolute convenience with fantastic image potential."
Accessories
The FinePix S6500fd's optional Wide Conversion Lens, WL-FXS6, expands the camera's wide-angle capability without compromising image quality. It allows the extreme angles of view normally only available with changeable lenses on an SLR camera.
Also available is an optional premium leather case. Fujifilm World Travel Adaptor, for charging abroad, and spare Lithium-ion battery, NP-70 make travelling with the FinePix S6500 easy.
The camera comes with shoulder strap, USB and A/V cables, Lens cap and hood and software CDs FinePix Viewer (with RAW File Converter included), ImageMixer VCD2 LE for FinePix and RAW File Converter LE.

Fujifilm FinePix F20 Announced
Fujifilm today announced the launch of the FinePix F20, an affordable and slimline 6.3 megapixel camera that reflects the company's commitment to producing a wide range of high-end, high sensitivity digital cameras that work in low light.
The FinePix F20 refines the body shape of the acclaimed FinePix F30. However its convenient, pocketable dimensions do not prevent it from featuring the same powerful sixth generation Super CCD HR sensor and Real Photo Processor II technology as its bigger brother.
Fujifilm's Real Photo Technology cameras are among the only digital compacts to deliver ISO sensitivity of 1600 and above at full resolution. This ensures crisp, clear images that are as close as any digital camera gets to reproducing a scene just as the human eye sees it, even in low light, without the use of flash. The FinePix F20's sensitivity of ISO 100-2000 makes it five times more effective at capturing detailed, natural looking images in low light than a conventional compact with ISO 400. It's a feature that users are coming to expect from high-specification cameras.
The camera also features Fujifilm's Intelligent Flash system. This helps avoid the messy background blur of 'slow-sync' flash as well as the starkness of conventional flash. Instead, the camera automatically sets the power output of the flash to produce balanced images that combine natural foreground illumination with optimum background exposure. It spells the end for bleached-out people and blacked-out backgrounds, and brings greater depth and clarity to twilight hour photography.
In addition, the FinePix F20's innovative 'Natural Light & Flash' Dual Shot mode takes two shots in quick succession, one with flash and one without, before displaying them side by side for instant comparison. It's like a photographic safety net and means the user can be confident of getting a great image for every unexpected, spontaneous moment.
With a 300-shot battery life, 14 scene positions including beach, snow and fireworks, the FinePix F20 is a versatile and dynamic companion that guarantees the user great pictures wherever they take it.
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Photo Products, said, "This new camera reflects Fujifilm's photographic strategy by broadening our range of high-sensitivity digital cameras. Digital photography has moved on from megapixels, and today sensitivity is the key area of advancement. Our cameras are at the vanguard of this movement and the FinePix F20 joins a growing family of models specifically designed to produce pictures just as your eyes see them."
FinePix F20 features at a glance:
ISO 2000* sensitivity at full resolution for low-noise photography in all light situations
(*On Picture Stabilisation and Natural Light Mode or ISO 1600 on Auto and Manual Mode)
Sixth generation Super CCD HR VI sensor delivering 6.3 million effective pixels
Real Photo Processor II reduces noise and delivers enhanced colour reproduction
Anti-blur button to set high shutter speed and reduce the risk of blurry images
Intelligent Flash achieves the optimum combination of high sensitivity and natural skin tones
'Natural Light & Flash' Dual Shot mode
Quick response times 0.01 second shutter lag and 1.4 second start-up
3x optical zoom
Long-life battery (up to 300 shots)
TV-quality VGA movie recording of 30 frames per second with sound
PictBridge™ compatible for direct printing without a PC
Accessories
A range of dedicated optional accessories is available for the FinePix F20, including premium leather case, WP-FXF30 Underwater Housing and Underwater Strobe Kit. For users who want to travel with their camera, a Fujifilm World Travel Adaptor, for charging abroad, and spare Lithium-ion battery, NP-70, are also available.
The camera comes with software CDs, FinePix Viewer and ImageMixer VCD2 LE for FinePix. Also included are Lithium-ion battery NP-70, AC Power Adaptor AC-5VC, Hand Strap, and USB and A/V cables.
Availability & pricing
The FinePix F20 will be available from UK retailers in September 2006. Pricing and stockists will be announced nearer to the date of retail launch*.

Fujifilm FinePix Z3 Zoom: the ideal handbag companion
Fujifilm today announced the launch of its new FinePix Z3 Zoom, an ultra-chic compact digital camera, available in some cutting-edge colours - silver, metallic blue and light pink.
The Z3 Zoom will have particular appeal to female digital camera owners who have felt that performance is frequently sacrificed for the sake of style – it is accomplished enough to capture images of impressive quality, but small enough to fit into the tiniest of handbags. The distinctive design is only part of the story; the big news is that Fujifilm's renowned Super CCD sensor, combined with the company's Real Photo Technology Processor II, spells the end for spoiled shots.
Research has shown that the majority of pictures taken by women are 'people pictures' captured in low light situations at close proximity. Ironically, it is exactly these situations that spell trouble for conventional digital cameras. Their lack of low-light sensitivity leads to blurry results, or an over-reliance on flash, which kills the atmosphere and the natural lighting.
Unlike the usual sensitivity limit of ISO 400, the FinePix Z3 Zoom boasts a sensitivity range up to ISO 1600 at full resolution, which means that users are able to produce images with minimum 'noise', capturing crisp shots, even if memories are a blur! Furthermore, the new Anti-Blur button ensures that the FinePix Z3 Zoom operates with a much faster shutter speed than conventional cameras, reducing the effects caused by hand shake and subject movement.
Pictures may even make it to the mantelpiece thanks to the ingenious Intelligent Flash system that combines a clear, well-exposed background with natural skin tones on subjects in the foreground. This banishes 'ghostly' faces against dark backgrounds once and for all.
Additionally, the innovative Dual-Shooting Mode takes two consecutive shots (one with flash and one without flash) giving users the choice between the two pictures – almost like being guided by your own personal expert.
FinePix Z3 Zoom features at a glance:
• Super CCD HR sensor delivering 5.1 million effective pixels
• Real Photo Processor II reduces noise and delivers enhanced colour reproduction
• Intelligent Flash achieves the optimum combination of high sensitivity and natural skin tones
• Anti-Blur button enables fast shutter speeds, minimising blur
• 14 pre-programmed scene positions including Dual-Shooting mode
• Non-extending refractive optical zoom lens with 3x optical zoom
• Sensitivity range of ISO 64-1600 for low-noise photography in all light situations
• Slim and stylish wraparound shell-type body, available in silver, metallic blue and light pink
• High resolution 2.5 inch LCD screen with reinforced, scratch-resistant glass
• Continuous shooting mode for action photography
• 10 MB internal memory for added convenience
• TV-quality VGA movie recording of 30 frames per second with sound
• PictBridge™ compatible for direct printing without a PC
Will Rolls, Marketing Manager - Digital Imaging, Fujifilm, said "This is a camera that fits right into a night out. So many slim cameras are marketed as the 'ultimate party accessory', yet they amount to little more than electronic jewellery, unable to cope in the dark world of indoor, sociable photography. The FinePix Z3 Zoom is the ideal blend between a very serious low-light picture-taking tool and head-turning design."

For the first time with a FinePix camera, it also comes with a tutorial xD-Picture Card™ that conveniently demonstrates its range of functions.
A new shooting mode, 'Natural Light & with Flash', captures two images in quick succession, with and without flash so that the user can make an on-the-spot comparison of the images. This feature is perfect for awkward photographic conditions when it's difficult to judge whether flash is needed or not. Fujifilm's new Underwater Strobe Kit
Fujifilm today announces the launch of its compact Underwater Strobe Kit, for sub-aqua photography at depths of up to 60m. The equipment is designed to fit the entire range of Fujifilm underwater housings, and is compatible with almost all brands of digital cameras and underwater housings currently on the market.
The Underwater Strobe Kit provides that vital extra burst of light, meaning colour and tone can be recorded more naturally, and giving underwater shots greater clarity and depth of colour for mesmerising underwater images.
The SS-120N Digital Slave Strobe included with the Underwater Strobe Kit is triggered wirelessly by the digital camera’s own built-in flash. Three output settings are available, to cope with the variable lighting conditions found underwater, and to adjust the amount of light hitting the subject. Diffuser panels are also included to create different lighting. In addition, three synchronisation settings ensure compatibility with most digital cameras with built-in flash.
The Underwater Strobe Kit has superb versatility and is designed specifically for underwater handling. The ‘grippable’ arm bends in all directions, adjusting to illuminate even the most intricate coral reef and allows more colourful photography at depths where natural light is scarce.
Available as individual components or as a complete kit, users can choose from the full Underwater Strobe Kit at a suggested retail price of £159.99 inc VAT, the SS-120N Digital Slave Strobe and UW-120N Underwater Housing at £109.99, or the Adjustable Arm and Bracket (SRP £69.99 each). Although designed for underwater activity, the kit can also be used as an effective additional light source on land.
The Underwater Strobe Kit is available to buy from all Fujifilm stockists, and specialist diving shops throughout the UK.

The FinePix F11 Zoom features market-leading sensitivity of ISO 80-1600, thanks to Fujifilm's 'Real Photo Processor' technology. This gives startlingly clean images, whether composing shots in bright sunshine, in low light or indoors without flash. The refined Super CCD sensor features the octagonal photodiodes pioneered by Fujifilm, which receive light more efficiently than traditional photodiode patterns.
The camera also features a higher resolution 2.5" LCD screen, boasting an impressive 153,000 pixels – helpful when composing shots or viewing images in playback mode. The focus response of the macro mode has been improved, enabling accurate, satisfying close-up photography at distances as close as five centimetres.
Furthermore, the FinePix F11 Zoom is a camera with longevity, delivering around 500 shots on a single battery charge – making it the perfect model for photographers travelling or those on intense photo shoots.

Fujifilm Announce FinePix S9500 DSLR
Fujifilm today announces the launch of the FinePix S9500 Zoom, a new model that marks the point where compact digital cameras and digital SLRs meet. Aimed at amateur and enthusiast photographers, the FinePix S9500 Zoom features resolution good enough to challenge entry-level digital SLRs. It combines this with a range of features that enable a level of photographic flexibility more often associated with compact digital cameras.
The FinePix S9500 Zoom features Fujifilm’s brand new 5th generation Super CCD sensor, and offers an image size of nine megapixels. Recognising that image quality is determined by more than just pixel count, the inclusion of Fujifilm’s Real Photo Technology gives the FinePix S9500 Zoom a true advantage. It has a class-leading sensitivity range of ISO 80 - ISO 1600, which reduces the need for reliance on image stabilisation. The ISO range means that sharp, focused images can be achieved in all light conditions – from bright sunny days to night-time shots – without the use of a flash. Fast shutter speeds not only lessen the effect of blurring from camera shake, but subject movement, too.
The camera incorporates a 28-300mm (equivalent on a 35mm camera) Fujinon zoom lens with twist-barrel zoom control. This is a zoom range that encompasses all the major focal lengths, and the manual zoom control enables the photographer to make precision adjustments. Furthermore, because the lens and body on the FinePix S9500 Zoom are built as a closed unit, it eliminates the possibility of dust on the lens and CCD – a serious problem when removing lenses on a digital SLR.
A new tilting LCD screen on the camera means that it is possible to view images at awkward angles, such as close to the ground or above the head. Unlike digital SLRs, the LCD can also be used to compose images, which means even more convenience for the photographer.
In addition, the camera features a 30-frames-per-second movie mode with manual zoom capability, giving high quality moving images with sound – a function that cannot be integrated into traditional digital SLRs due to the physical design of the cameras.
With a 0.8 second start-up time, and just 0.01 second shutter lag, the FinePix S9500 Zoom will give users a near-instant response so that spontaneous shots and unexpected action need never be missed. The camera also incorporates RAW mode, for uncompressed and unprocessed image quality. A hotshoe attachment and PC sync terminal for external flash make it a camera that’s as happy in the studio as it is out and about.

Fujifilm Announce FinePix S5600 Zoom
Fujifilm today announces the launch of the FinePix S5600 Zoom, the third generation of its powerful, mini SLR-style digital cameras with long zoom lens. Packed with features, including 10x optical zoom and Anti-Blur Mode, the FinePix S5600 Zoom is an impressive reworking of its popular predecessors.
Beneath its robust body lie the sensor enhancements that make the FinePix S5600 Zoom punch above its weight. Boasting a new 5th Generation five megapixel Super CCD HR sensor and Fujifilm’s new Real Photo Technology, the FinePix S5600 Zoom has the power to capture large images with incredible clarity and detail in a range of lighting conditions.
Complete with an unrivalled sensitivity range from ISO 64 to ISO 1600, the camera makes it possible to achieve crisp photographs with minimal noise, even in very low light conditions. The Anti-Blur Mode, which exploits the camera’s exceptional ISO capabilities, reduces blurring caused by movement of the user, as well as movement blur caused by the subject, making it much more effective than image stabilisation technology alone.
The camera’s impressive 10x optical zoom has a fixed lens housing and covers all settings from wide to telephoto. It’s ideal for amateurs and photography enthusiasts alike who want optical power but don’t want to compromise with a heavyweight or bulky camera body. The fixed lens housing also ensures a lightning-fast start-up time and removes the risk of getting dust particles inside the lens or camera body.
The FinePix S5600 Zoom features a high-speed start up time of just 1.1 seconds and shutter lag has been minimised to 0.01 seconds. This, combined with a new automatic pop-up flash, means that you’ll never miss out on the action.
Moreover, the camera offers 30fps movie capability with monaural sound, making it the perfect choice for those wanting to create high quality home movies without the need to carry a camcorder.

Fujifilm Announce FinePix E900 Zoom
Fujifilm today announces the launch of the FinePix E900 Zoom, the latest addition to its highly specified ‘E’ series range of digital cameras. This new generation compact is the first of its kind to deliver 9.0 million pixels, and offers a 4x optical zoom and a sensitivity range of ISO 80 to ISO 800, ensuring this feature-laden model is always ready for action – whatever the photographic conditions.
Underneath its solid matt black exterior lies a powerful 5th Generation Super CCD HR sensor delivering ultra-high resolution and a massive nine megapixel image size. Furthermore, the FinePix E900 Zoom is a camera that enables huge photo enlargements that can be printed without loss of image quality or detail.
Fujifilm’s Real Photo Technology enhances the photographic experience further by capturing pin-sharp images with low noise, even at high sensitivity settings. What’s more, the FinePix E900 Zoom’s broad sensitivity range means that it can handle most lighting conditions.
Its high-speed start-up time of 1.3 seconds, near instantaneous shutter response and high sensitivity capabilities help minimise camera shake and image blur – making this versatile compact, the perfect picture-taking companion for spontaneous moments.
In addition, Fujifilm has incorporated a post-shooting Highlight Warning feature as part of the histogram display, which provides the photographer with an opportunity to view affected areas of an image, or spot exposure issues before committing to the final shot – saving time, effort and disappointment at a later stage.
The FinePix E900 Zoom is a durable compact that has been designed with comfort, ease of use and image satisfaction in mind. Available in black with metallic silver trim, it features a solid ‘grip’ making it easier to hold and operate when on the move.
For budding movie pros keen to have the flexibility to capture still and moving images, the FinePix E900 Zoom also includes a TV-quality video function with zoom feature, capable of capturing 30 frames per second. Furthermore, the large two-inch LCD screen makes it easy to view movies and share the action, without the need to rely on a TV screen.

FujiFilm F10 Zoom Camera

The F10 Zoom extracts extraordinary quality from the 6.3 million pixels on its Super CCD sensor. Rather than add extra, unnecessary physical pixels to the sensor, the F10 Zoom concentrates on important aspects of picture quality, such as low noise, colour accuracy and punchy, contrasty results. The level of image quality from this camera will not fail to impress those that really know about digital photography.
The F10 Zoom hasn't just got a big LCD monitor, it's also a clever one, adjusting itself to the level of ambient light at the time of shooting. If you move from bright sunlight into dark indoors, the LCD automatically gains in illumination to enable you to see all of the detail of the shot. Even when the camera is switched off, pushing the playback button enables photographs to be reviewed almost instantly. What is more, a new playback function allows you to see the last three shots you took, whilst simultaneously composing your next photograph.
The camera's ability is further underlined by some impressive speed statistics. The screen refresh rate is an amazing 60 frames per second, whilst still having time to achieve continual autofocus. And with a shutter time lag of just 0.01 seconds, 1.1 seconds between frames for consecutive shots and just 1.3 seconds needed for start-up, this is a camera with truly rapid reactions.
