Three new Nikkor professional super-telephoto lenses featuring VR II
Tokyo – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of three new AF-S super-telephoto NIKKOR lenses — the AF-S NIKKOR 400mm f/2.8G ED VR, AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR, and AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4G ED VR — to further strengthen its super-telephoto lens lineup. These new super-telephoto lenses are equipped with a vibration reduction (VR) function. Nikon’s VR II system minimizes image blur caused by camera shake, offering a shutter speed up to the equivalent of four stops faster.* The newly added Tripod mode reduces vibration that may occur at shutter release when shooting with a super-telephoto lens attached to a tripod. Another big advantage of Nikon’s VR function is that it gives photographers the option of a natural viewfinder image even during VR operation.
*As determined by Nikon performance tests.

The superior functioning of the newly developed optical system ensures flawless synchronization with Nikon’s digital SLRs. The new optical design features three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that minimize chromatic aberration, producing consistently high-quality images. Nano Crystal Coat, extra-low refractive index coating, virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths, and is particularly effective in reducing ghosting and flare. A meniscus protective glass element also minimizes the ghosting that occur when light reflected from a digital camera’s image sensor is in turn reflected off an ordinary flat protective glass element.
Nikon’s exclusive Silent Wave Motor (SWM) provides fast autofocus with superior accuracy and ultra-quiet operation. All lenses feature nine-blade rounded diaphragms that ensure a more natural look for parts of a scene intended to be out of focus. The minimum focus distances are 2.9 m/9.5 ft. (400mm f/2.8G), 4.0 m/13.1 ft. (500mm f/4G) and 5.0 m/16.4 ft. (600mm f/4G) respectively (at AF) — much shorter than their predecessors.
Ergonomically arranged switches and buttons enable easy access and comfortable operation even during handheld shooting. The Focus Preset function instantly recalls a focal point preset with a simple pushbutton operation; the Focus Limiter switch restricts AF-servo movement to a controlled shooting distance range; the AF-L switch makes it possible to lock focus from the lens; and AF-ON engages autofocus from the lens.
The new A/M focus mode allows instant switching from autofocus to manual focus, even during AF servo operation, and offers a major improvement over conventional M/A modes by significantly reducing the possibility of unintentional switching from Auto to Manual.
By employing magnesium die-cast in the lens body construction, we achieved considerable weight savings without sacrificing rugged field-proven construction resistant to both dust and water.
With their unprecedented image quality, responsiveness and versatility, these new NIKKORs are certain to set a new benchmark for super-telephoto lenses.

AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED
Tokyo — Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED, the world’s first macro lens equipped with Nikon Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and Vibration Reduction (VR) systems. It offers a host of Nikon's advanced optical features and technologies such as Nano Crystal Coat, Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass and Internal Focusing (IF) . The AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED is engineered for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras.
This lens has been developed to meet user demand for a 105mm macro lens equipped with SWM, IF and VR system. The SWM ensures fast and quiet autofocusing and quick switching between autofocus and manual operation. The IF system also offers a non-rotating front lens element that facilitates the use of circular polarizing filters.
With the enhanced VR system (VRII), photographers can capture sharp images at shutter speeds approximately 4 stops* slower [at near infinity to 3m (1/30x reproduction ratio)] than would otherwise be possible. The negative effects of camera shake are greatly amplified in close-up photography and can affect image sharpness greatly. The incorporation of Nikon VR technology in a Micro-Nikkor lens expands versatility by, for the first time, providing the sharpness benefits of VR and improving hand-held close-up photography. What’s more, the VRII offers stable viewfinder image for easy frame composition even at high magnification shooting.
In addition, the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED also features proven Nikon optical technologies such as the Nano Crystal Coat, which drastically reduces flare, and one ED glass element that minimizes chromatic aberration, to provide higher resolution and high-contrast images.
The AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED ensures high-quality and high-performance for all photographers—from amateurs to professionals.

Nikon AF-S DX VR 18-200mm Zoom Lens Announced
Tokyo — Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED, a compact, lightweight 11.1x zoom lens that is ideal for everyday photography and incorporates advanced features such as Nikon ED glass, SWM (Silent Wave Motor) and enhanced VR (Vibration Reduction), as well as featuring optics optimized for use with Nikon digital SLRs.
The lens offers users the remarkable 18-200mm focal length range, which conveniently covers everything from wide landscapes to tight portrait shots. (The picture angle is equivalent to a 27-300mm lens in 35mm format.) Advanced Nikon engineering has given rise to a compact lightweight design that offers excellent handling characteristics.
The highlight of this versatile powerful zoom lens is the benefit of improved Vibration Reduction (VR II), an innovation that makes it possible to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds than would otherwise be possible. This provides the distinct advantage of being able to shoot more effectively in a much broader variety of challenging lighting conditions. With the new VR II advantage, users can take pictures at shutter speeds as many as 4 stops slower* than they ordinarily could shoot without camera shake with a non-VR lens! Nikon’s VR technology further enhances picture taking potential with a choice of two modes to match more shooting conditions. VR Normal Mode primarily compensates for camera shake, and includes automatic panning detection, as well as automatic tripod detection. VR Active Mode effectively compensates for vibration in situations where it is more pronounced and more frequent, such as when shooting from a moving vehicle.
Additional proven Nikon features and technologies offered in the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED include the compact SWM, which combines fast and precise autofocusing with super-quiet operation, two ED glass elements and three aspherical lens elements that provide for higher resolution, high-contrast images while minimizing chromatic aberration, astigmatism and other forms of distortion.
*Under Nikon measurement conditions.
Note: This lens is designed exclusively for use with Nikon digital SLR cameras and is not compatible with 35mm [135] or IX240 format film cameras.Specifications, design, product name, standard accessories, and release schedule may differ by country or area.
