Further, in 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function provides additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 8.9x by using the center part of the CCD. In addition, newly adopted iris diaphragm allows the users to adjust aperture at fine steps manually. *35mm film camera equivalent: 25-125mm **When the picture size is set to 3 megapixels or larger, the photo is automatically resized to 3 megapixels. When the lens is shifted back to the wide-end, the picture size is set to the original size automatically. The original size is maintained for photos smaller than 3 megapixels.
2. Intuitive Manual Operation with 3.0-inch Large Touch Screen Interface
A first for Panasonic Lumix cameras - the DMC-FX500 incorporates a 3.0-inch large touch-screen interface achieving the ultimate ease of use in terms of both taking and playing back images. Panasonic proposes a hybrid operation system combining the new touch-screen interface and the conventional operation system with joystick for more quick and intuitive control, by taking advantage of both operation systems. Users can make basic settings directly with the joystick while they can make extensive adjustments intuitively by touching or moving the slider on the screen.
To activate the menu, all you have to do is to touch the mode you want after pressing the mode button. Notably in the recording mode, auto focus and exposure can be set at the desired part of the frame by simply touching the subject at that part to activate the AF/AE. The camera continues tracking the subject even if it moves with the AF/AE Tracking function to minimize the shutter time lag at the spur-of-the-moment. In manual operation mode, aperture and shutter speed can be set to the desired value by moving the slider.
In playback mode, a new Easy Organisation menu is provided to simplify image organising. The user can quickly select an image to view by scrolling the thumbnails located below the main window, and then edit the image by resizing, trimming and inputting the text title of the picture. You can also flag the desired image as your favourites or delete them in one menu interface.
This touch-screen interface features a high-resolution Intelligent LCD which automatically controls the brightness at a total of 11 fine steps by detecting the surrounding lighting condition. This function gives the display the most appropriate clarity in any situation.
3. Great Photography Is Not Only from Professional Photographers Anymore – Advanced Intelligent Auto Mode
Intelligent Auto mode, which comprises various shooting-assist functions, has been advanced for the DMC-FX500 by adding the new Intelligent Exposure feature and Digital Red-eye Correction in addition to the conventional Mega O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Detection and Quick AF functions. Mega O.I.S. suppresses hand-shake and Intelligent ISO Control prevents motion blur. The Intelligent Scene Selector sets the appropriate scene mode by automatically selecting it from the most frequently used scene modes, such as Portrait, Scenery, Macro, Night Portrait and Night Scenery. The Face Detection system detects human faces to set the focus and appropriate exposure for them automatically. The unwanted red-eye effect caused by the use of the flash can be digitally corrected. The newly added Intelligent Exposure function automatically controls the ISO sensitivity partially to increase the exposure of only the darkened area due to backlighting or insufficient flash lighting to capture the scene as you see it by suppressing the extreme brightness and darkness in the picture. The Quick AF system allows the camera to start focusing on the subject even without pressing the shutter button halfway, to get the best results from every shooting opportunity by minimizing the AF time. Once you enter iA mode, these multi-capable functions happen automatically so you can shoot without the bother of adjusting settings every time conditions change. You can enjoy easy, trouble-free shooting in any situation and get the satisfaction that comes with capturing clear, beautiful images.
The DMC-FX500 is a class above it’s peers. You can set auto focus and exposure on the desired subject by simply touching it on the screen with your intention and the rest of the settings are automatically supported by the iA mode.
4. Exciting Options to Expand the Fun of Photography in the High-Definition Era
All Lumix cameras can take 1920x1080 pixel HD (high-definition) quality photos that perfectly fit a wide-screen (16:9) HDTV for full-screen viewing. The new DMC-FX500 even records dynamic HD motion pictures in 1280 x 720p at a smooth 30 fps, in addition to WVGA (848 x 480) and normal VGA (640 x 480)* **.

Panasonic's New DMC-L10 Digital SLR Featuring Full-time Live View
Panasonic, a leader in digital technology, is delighted to announce the launch of their second digital single-lens reflex camera (SLR) - the DMC-L10 with an interchangeable LEICA lens.
The DMC-L10 features an advanced 2.5-inch free angle LCD for full time live view that offers 270 degree rotation and a versatile shooting style. A 10.1-megapixel Live MOS Sensor provides beautiful images with delicate gradation and wide dynamic range. Dust reduction with a Supersonic Wave Filter system prevents dust from attaching to the sensor to degrade the pictures. The superb image processor, Venus Engine III, boasts high quality image rendering and a high speed response.
Four Thirds System - Developed Exclusively for digital SLR
The DMC-L10 adopts the open format of the Four Thirds system for its lens mount - so the L10 can be used with lenses made by a variety of manufacturers, giving users a host of equipment options. Drawing on leading technologies while defying any stereotype ideas in SLR cameras, Panasonic's DMC-L10 is designed to help you make the most of your photographic creativity.
One of the DMC-L10's real talking points is the LEICA D VARIO-ELMAR 14-50mm / F3.8-5.6 / MEGA O.I.S. lens. Sold as a complete kit - the combination of the world renowned Leica lens, with Panasonic's excellence in digital photography - makes an impressive proposition.
Full-time Live View for a New Digital SLR Shooting Style
The full-time live view function on the LCD proposes a dramatic change in the shooting style of digital SLR cameras. The DMC-L10's 2.5-inch large LCD offers 270 degree rotation and a versatile shooting style even in situations when looking into the viewfinder is not easy - so you don't need to get down on bended knee, or lie flat on the ground - you can see the subject even while holding the camera up high. This free angle LCD also features an Intelligent LCD function that offers an automatic brightness level control function according to the light condition, under the strong sunlight or in darkness, to secure clear view anytime.
The full-time live view gives users more shooting flexibility and greater convenience not previously achieved by conventional digital SLR cameras without live view capability. Not one to rest on its laurels, Panasonic introduces another first for a digital SLR camera by incorporating a Face Detection and Intelligent ISO Control function. The face detection system detects human faces (up to 15 human faces can be detected simultaneously) and sets a focus and appropriate exposure to capture a face clearly and beautifully lit. The Intelligent ISO Control function detects and meters the movement of the subject and sets the suitable ISO setting and the shutter speed according to the amount of the movement to suppress the generation of motion-blur in the picture.
The live view enables the user to check the outcome image in advance after compensating the exposure or adjusting the white balance. The white balance can be adjusted in the area of two-axis of coordinates precisely. Furthermore, the DMC-L10 provides options of picture taste with a function called Film Mode. Each analog film has its characteristics, for example colour, contrast, gradation and these effect the outcome of the picture, they are ways of expression. With the DMC-L10, the Film Mode allows you to choose the one that takes the best advantage of the scene or the subject you take out of a total of nine film modes including Standard, Dynamic, Nature, Smooth, Nostalgic, Vibrant, Standard B/W, Dynamic B/W and Smooth B/W, with the capability of fine adjustment of contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction. All these settings can be confirmed before you take the picture.
Users can also change the aspect ratio (4:3, 3:2 and 16:9) according to the situation. As a leader in the flat panel market, Panasonic has been proposing further enjoyment of photography, by viewing the dynamic photos you take in HD (high-definition) 1920 x 1080 resolution image size on 16:9 wide screens.
In conventional digital SLR cameras, the live image could be seen only through the view finder and the LCD existed just for the playback of images once taken. But with the DMC-L10, any trials of setting, adjustment and effect can be checked beforehand, ensuring the picture will be just as the user intended.
A Fusion of Technologies - Advanced Hybrid AF System
Not only has Panasonic included a live view function on the new SLR - the DMC-L10 also adopts an advanced hybrid-type AF system - a first in any digital SLR. A TTL phase difference detection system works for shooting through a viewfinder while contrast AF system best supports the shooting using the live view. This is also the case with AE. A high speed, high precision TTL full aperture light metering by 49 zones multi-pattern sensing system is available for shooting through the viewfinder. For shooting with live view, exposure can be metered and set using the Live MOS sensor for light metering to take the whole picture information and evaluate it by 256 zones multi-pattern sensing system to give a well-balanced exposure as a whole image.
To match the shooting situation and subject's position, the user can select from six auto-focusing methods: Face Detection, 9-point, Multi, 3-point, 1-point and Spot. With the 1-point AF or spot AF method, the auto-focusing area can be chosen from as many as 11 points. Various group area patterns can also be selected in the new Multi method.
For your convenience, in manual focus, you can enlarge the specific part of the subject on the LCD and also freely move the magnified area for easy framing, which is especially useful when using a tripod.
The New 10.1-Megapixel Live MOS Sensor and the Venus Engine III for Superior Picture Quality
The Live MOS sensor used in the DMC-L10 provides beautiful images with delicate gradation and wide dynamic range that only a CCD image sensor can provide while achieving low energy consumption which is a feature of CMOS sensors. By incorporating the 2.2m pixel technology, Panasonic is first in the industry to succeed in the mass production of a miniaturized circuit that sustains the same light receiving area as the sensor of 7.5-megapixel. In addition, the efficiency of light reception is raised at the same time, to keep the sensitivity as high as that of 7.5-megapixel despite the decreased pixel area. Also, photodiodes embedded deeply in the silicon layer create a structure that suppresses noise generated on the substrate surface. As a result, the white-spot pixel defects and textual roughness that often characterize images captured in shooting at higher ISO are minimized thanks to the incorporation of newly developed noise reduction circuit, so the pictures are clear and beautiful.
The Venus Engine III is an image processing LSI developed by Panasonic to maximise the performance of the Leica D lens and Live MOS sensor. This advanced LSI not only helps reproduce images with outstanding resolution, superior colour and detailed gradation, it also distinguishes chromatic noise from luminance noise and selectively reduces the chromatic noise, one of the chief sources of image quality problems. This helps the DMC-L10 deliver the superb image rendering one expects from a quality SLR camera.
Dust Reduction System
One of the most critical issues with digital SLR cameras with interchangeable lenses is the possibility of dust entering the camera body during lens changes. This dust can adhere to the image sensor and show up as spots on photos. Panasonic has solved this problem by equipping the DMC-L10 with a Supersonic Wave Filter system that uses supersonic vibration to shake off any dust clinging to the sensor. This simplifies camera maintenance and eliminates worries about dust entering the camera body when lenses are being changed outdoors or the dust that may be generated by the movement of mirror or shutter, so users can enjoy themselves and simply concentrate on shooting.
Inherently User Friendly
Panasonic drew on its cutting-edge lens technology to invent Mega O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser), a system that prevents blurring from shaky hands and has been incorporated in all Lumix compact cameras. This high-precision image stabilising lens system is now incorporated into the LEICA D VARIO-ELMAR 14-50mm/F3.8-5.6/MEGA O.I.S. With Mega O.I.S., it is easier than ever to capture clear, sharp, beautiful images when shooting indoor portraits, illuminated night scenes or even the scenery you see from a train window. Another problem is the motion blur that can occur when a subject moves as the shot is being snapped but the DMC-L10 detects whether or not the subject is moving with the Intelligent ISO Control function.
A total of nine scene modes also support the pursuit of usability for any photographer to enjoy taking beautiful pictures with ease, while more advanced photographers can make finer adjustments with the Advanced Scene Mode and with frequently-used Portrait, Sports, Landscape and Night portrait being directly activated via the mode dial. Select the Portrait or Sports mode and you'll have further options to define whether it is in outdoor or indoor. Selecting Landscape mode gives you the option to specify if you're going to take nature or architecture - thus more suitable compensation for the scene will be available on the picture to get the best results. Alternatively you can simply select the original mode without any further adjustment, or select Creative mode that even allows manual controls over an aperture or a shutter speed.
Spinning the Mode Dial on top of the camera directly points you to the frequently used settings including Auto mode, each P/A/S/M mode, and five frequently-used scene modes and one custom mode that you can pre-set for your own preference. The DMC-L10 incorporates a variety of functions that build a bridge for the potential user of digital SLR to take a first step in a world of real creative photography or for existing users who have not been able to take best advantage of their conventional digital SLR cameras.
The DMC-L10 will be available from October 2007.

For example creative changes factors such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO - outdoor changes backlight compensation, and indoor changes the I.S.O.
As easy as LCD
The new models boast a 207K pixel high resolution, 2.5" large LCD so you can effortlessly capture and playback your pictures. The camera detects the light condition and automatically boosts the LCD backlighting by 40% when shooting outdoors in bright sunshine, and boosts signals by mixed-pixel readout method when shooting under low-lit situation to secure a clear image in any circumstance. The High Angle mode, which can be accessed quickly and easily via a dedicated button, makes the LCD screen extremely easy to view when the camera is held high, such as to shoot over a crowd.
Quick and Smart AF and Easy Manual Focusing
To match the shooting situation and subject's position, the user can select from six auto-focusing methods: face detection, multi, 3-point high-speed, 1-point high-speed, 1-point normal-speed, and spot. With the 1-point AF or spot AF method, the auto-focusing area can be chosen from as many as 11 points with the joystick or cursor button. Various group area patterns can also be selected in the new Multi method.
With the newly added Face Detection system, the detection keeps working on the faces even if subjects are moving so that the time for AF is minimized before you click away the shutter.
Manual focusing, which is a valuable tool for professional-level photography, is also easy thanks to the joystick, and instant switching between AF and MF is available with the independent AF/MF button. Panasonic DMC-FX100 12.2-Megapixel Compact Digital Camera
Panasonic is pleased to announce the new DMC-FX100, an eminently worthy addition to the Lumix line of advanced digital cameras. The world's first 12.2-Megapixel digital camera with 28mm wide-angle lens - the FX100 offers the outstanding performance of a 28mm wide-angle lens and a 12.2-Megapixel CCD in a sleek body. A superior camera with extraordinary expressive power, the DMC-FX100 is a highly sophisticated proposition.
Broaden your outlook and get the big picture
The FX100 is equipped with a newly developed 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC VARIO ELMARIT lens featuring f/2.8 brightness and a 3.6x optical zoom plus a 12.2-megapixel CCD. Developed specifically for the DMC-FX100, this Leica DC lens gives users the creative power to capture stunningly true-to-life high-resolution images with extraordinary resolution, detail and clarity.
The 28mm wide-angle lens opens up a plethora of photographic opportunities, allowing photographers to easily capture a large group of people, or expansive architectural structures and landscapes with dynamic width and rich perspective. The wide-angle lens is particularly helpful in situations where you cannot step back or move away from a subject - ideal for shooting group portraits in a small room for example. To further add to its appeal, Panasonic has managed to pack the advanced 28mm wide-angle lens and large CCD into a sleek, slim body.
The new lens unit comprises seven elements in six groups, including an EA (extra-high refractive index aspherical) lens and four lenses with five aspherical surfaces to generate high optical performance. The zoom ratio can be extended up to 7x in 3-megapixel resolution mode with minimal deterioration thanks to the Extra Optical Zoom. By using the central part of the CCD, this powerful zooming function allows you to easily capture and magnify distant subjects. The FX100 also has an Easy Zoom feature that, at the touch of a button, shifts the lens instantly to full 3.6x zoom power. A second touch of the button activates the Extra Optical Zoom function and extends zoom all the way to 7x.
Highest Resolution in its class
The DMC-FX100 incorporates a new 1/1.72-inch large CCD with 12.2-megapixel rich recording resolution. This super-high resolution is possible because sufficient light-receiving area is allocated to each pixel, thus preventing noise that would otherwise be generated by a smaller pixel area. Images seen with the FX100's Leica DC lens - a lens superior in quality and performance to those found in other compact cameras - are rendered with the incredibly rich detail and gradation that only 12.2-megapixel resolution can achieve. Delicate flower petals, subtle skin textures, the changing hues of sunset - the FX100 captures the nuances of images like these with breathtaking clarity and detail. The 12.2-megapixel resolution also allows images to be printed up to A2 size with spectacular results, so you can make life-size prints of a baby or the upper half of an adult's body. Similarly, the high resolution lets you trim an image - framing only the part you like - and then magnify it and still get outstanding detail and resolution.
Intelligent Image Stabilisation
Panasonic is the first manufacturer to have successfully incorporated Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) into its compact cameras - a feature strongly appreciated worldwide and now considered to be a standard requirement of photography. O.I.S minimizes the jitter from shaky hands that causes many photos to look blurred by shifting the O.I.S lens unit to keep the optical axis aligned straight against the CCD. This ensures images are captured with supreme clarity and sharpness. The new advanced Mega O.I.S system in the DMC-FX100 can even detect and separate hand-shake from other movement of camera to raise both precision of detection and corrective effect.
While hand-shake is the single biggest cause of blurry images, it is not the only one. Another problem is the motion blur that can occur when a subject moves as the shot is being taken in poor light - particularly common when taking pictures of sports or young children for example. This is where Intelligent ISO Control comes in. This system detects whether the subject is moving and, as necessary raises the ISO setting and shutter speed according to how fast the subject is moving and the light conditions. This happens automatically, so you can effortlessly shoot without the need to adjust the settings every time the conditions change.
Panasonic's Intelligent Image Stabilisation offers two distinct solutions for both major causes of blurred images - O.I.S when you are moving, and Intelligent ISO Control when the subject is moving. Thanks to Panasonic, you can now take clear and beautiful images in various situations.
The power of the Venus Engine III
The DMC-FX100 features the Venus Engine III, Panasonic's advanced image-processing engine that supports a super-fast response time. Spontaneous moments can easily be captured thanks to an impressively quick 0.009 second shutter release time lag (the time between pressing the button on the camera and the photo being taken) and shutter interval as short as 0.9 seconds -outstanding for a camera recording at 12.2-megapixel resolution. Additionally, the burst shooting mode boosts the capability of sequential shots to a rate of 2 frames per second at full resolution . In High-Speed Burst shooting mode the FX100 fires off an incredible eight shots per second. If this wasn't enough, you also get unlimited consecutive shooting - which allows you to take photos in succession up to the capacity of the memory card or built in memory.
Playback at your leisure
With TV screens getting bigger and picture definition increasing, consumers want to be able to shoot higher-quality still images and motion pictures. With the FX100, you can shoot hi-definition 1920 x 1080 pixel photos that are ideal for full-screen viewing on a wide-screen (16:9) TV.
Not only can you capture beautiful still images - these new models also record stunning wide aspect VGA (640 x 480) and WVGA (848 x 480) motion images at 30 frames per second. If this wasn?t enough, the FX100 can also record stunning wide-aspect HD (1280 x 720) motion images at 15 frames per second. This enables you to view them on a widescreen HDTV television perfectly. Panasonic also offers the DMW-SDP1 HDTV Photo Player, which makes it easy to view a slideshow of Lumix photos in 1080i high definition quality. Simply connect the SDP1 via a component cable to a HDTV and slip the SDHC/SD memory card into the slot, and you?re ready to view high definition images on a large display with family or friends.
Providing the outstanding performance of a 28mm wide-angle lens and a 12.2-megapixel CCD in a sleek body, the new DMC-FX100 is a superior camera that can be relied upon to capture your most special moments. Elegantly finished in a choice of either sleek silver metallic or cool black metallic, the sleekly styled FX100 will be available from July.

The perfect choice for any photographer with varied photographic needs and high ambitions - Panasonic is pleased to introduce the new DMC-FZ8 7.2-megapixel Lumix camera, featuring a powerful 12x optical zoom, LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens and the ever popular and indispensable Optical Image Stabiliser (O.I.S). With a joystick control for manual adjustment of focusing and exposure setting, the DMC-FZ8 offers high end specification and portability.

Bridging the gap between high-end compacts and digital SLRs, Panasonic's DMC-FZ8 offers a level of control close to that of an SLR, but without the need for interchangeable lenses. Perfect for photographers on the move and families who want to shoot pictures outdoors for example, the FZ8 offers an easy way to enjoy the fun of capturing beautiful digital pictures.
Optical excellence from aperture to zoom
The Lumix DMC-FZ8 is equipped with a 7.2 megapixel CCD and a LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens offering a powerful 12x optical zoom (equivalent to 36mm to 432mm on a 35mm film camera) with an aperture of F2.8 to F3.3. If this wasn't enough, in 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function uses the centre part of the CCD to provide additional magnification, extending the zoom power to an impressive 18x. Using this feature in combination with the 4x digital zoom brings the total zooming power to a remarkable 72x.
The combination of 11 elements in eight groups, including 3 aspherical lenses generates superior optical performance while maintaining the compactness of the unit.
Shaken not blurred
Panasonic is the first manufacturer to have successfully incorporated Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) into its compact cameras ? a feature strongly appreciated worldwide and now considered to be a standard requirement of photography. O.I.S minimizes the jitter from shaky hands that causes many photos to look blurred. By shifting the O.I.S lens unit to keep the optical axis aligned straight against the CCD, the camera ensures images are captured with supreme clarity and sharpness.
While hand-shake is the single biggest cause of blurry images, it is not the only one. Another problem is the motion blur that can occur when a subject moves as the shot is being taken -particularly common when taking pictures of sports, or young children for example. Building on the success of its predecessor the FZ8 incorporates a new feature designed to resolve motion blur. Intelligent ISO Control detects whether the subject is moving and, as necessary raises the ISO setting and shutter speed according to how fast the subject is moving and the light conditions. This happens automatically, so you can effortlessly shoot without the need to adjust the settings every time the conditions change.
The best just keeps getting better!
Heir to the award winning DMC-FZ7, this new addition to the Lumix range has enhanced the excellence of its predecessor not only with the total number of pixels but also with several other innovative technical improvements. A key improvement is the inclusion of Panasonic's advanced image-processing LSI, Venus Engine III that can record at a sensitivity setting as high as ISO 1250 with full resolution. Noise reduction is also greatly improved, with picture noise removed in stages during image processing. Critical noise is analysed, and chromatic and luminance noise are reduced separately. The chromatic noise, which has greater effect on picture quality, is then selectively suppressed, resulting in clearer images.
Spontaneous moments can easily be captured thanks to a 1.8 second start up time and a 0.005 second shutter release time lag (the time between pressing the button on the camera and the photo being taken). Additionally, the burst shooting mode boasts the capability of sequential shots at a rate of 3 frames per second at full resolution . The unlimited consecutive shooting function allows you to take photos in succession up to the capacity of the memory card or built in memory. Thanks to the energy-efficient Venus Engine III, the FZ8 offers a long battery life, allowing around 380 shots on a single battery charge.
In addition to these technical improvements, the FZ8 also includes a number of user friendly features. For example, the FZ8 is provided with approximately 27MB of built-in memory - perfect for those moments when your SD card is full for that vital shot. The new addition also offers an element of future-proofing by accepting SDHC memory cards - the new SD memory cards with capacity over 2GB - allowing even more digital images to be captured on one card.
So fast, so easy - Auto Focus
The DMC-FZ8 really will work hard to ensure you capture every moment important to you. The various AF methods can be selected according to the shooting environment and the position of the subject: multi, 3 point high-speed, 1-point high speed, 1-point normal-speed and spot. With the 1-point AF method, the auto-focusing area can be chosen from as many as 11 points with the joystick or cursor button. Various group area patterns can also be selected in the new Multi method. As with all high-powered zoom models in the Lumix family, the DMC-FZ8 leads the industry with its short shutter time lag for quick, smooth operation.
Motion pictures at your fingertips
In addition to standard VGA (640x480) motion image recording, the DMC-FZ8 also records stunning full-size movies in wide-aspect VGA (848x480) at 30fps, enabling you to view your recordings on a widescreen television.
Ultimate Control!
Designed with creativity in mind, the FZ8 employs the same intuitive joystick control as appreciated in the FZ7 for manual adjustment of focusing and exposure setting.
To further add to its appeal, the FZ8 can save image data in the RAW file format, which can be edited and developed with the SILKYPIX Developer Studio 2.0SE included software. Using this software, you can freely adjust RAW data settings such as exposure bias and white balance even after shooting - ensuring greater control and greater enjoyment of digital photography.
The DMC-FZ8 packs a wealth of advanced technology and easy-to-use features in a sleek, compact package making it a highly attractive proposition. The DMC-FZ8 will be available from March 2007.

Panasonic DMC TX2
Panasonic Lumix cameras go from strength to strength with technological advancements designed to offer the ultimate in picture performance and convenience. Panasonic's new DMC-TZ2 and DMC-TZ3 are the latest members of the award-winning Lumix TZ family of digital cameras, which is renowned for packaging a remarkable 10x optical zoom in a compact, stylish body. To further add to their appeal, the TZ2 and TZ3 go one step further to feature a 28mm wide-angle Leica DC lens (equivalent to 28-280mm on a 35mm film camera) for wide-angle shooting.
More detail in a single frame
The 28mm wide-angle lens opens up a plethera of photographic opportunities, allowing photographers to easily capture a large group of people, or expansive architectural structures and landscapes with dynamic width and rich perspective. The wide-angle lens is particularly helpful in situations where you cannot step back or move away from a subject - ideal for shooting group portraits in a small room for example.
The diminutive size of the 7.2 megapixel DMC-TZ3 and 6.0 megapixel DMC-TZ2 belies the wealth of technological features. Incorporating a powerful 10x optical zoom in such a slim and stylish body is impressive in itself. Add to this the incorporation of Panasonic's Mega O.I.S that prevents blurring from shaky hands, Intelligent ISO to prevent motion blur, and the high quality, high performance image-processing Venus Engine III to name but a few - and the calibre of these new additions becomes apparent.
The LEICA DC VARIO-ELMAR lens comprises 11 elements in nine groups, including an ED (extra-low dispersion) lens and three aspherical lenses. This advanced lens unit passes Leica's stringent standards and delivers an exceptional optical performance. To further add to their appeal, the zoom ratio can be extended up to 15x in 3megapixel resolution mode (13.8x for the DMC-TZ2) with minimal deterioration thanks to the Extra Optical Zoom. By using the central part of the CCD, this powerful zooming function allows you to easily capture and magnify distant subjects. Furthermore, in combination with the 4x digital zoom, a zoom factor of up to 60x can be achieved (55x for the DMC-TZ2)
28mm wide angle lens with a difference
Conventional cameras generally use almost the entire CCD area when recording an image, and the angle of view may be altered regardless of the photographer?s intention. The TZ3 and TZ2 however, incorporate a 1/2.35? CCD (1/ 2.33? for TZ2) with a total of 8.50 megapixels (7.39 megapixels for the TZ2). This CCD, which is larger than those in conventional 7 megapixel and 6 megapixel class cameras, can reproduce images shot with the lens set 28mm to 280mm in any of three aspect ratios - 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9 - so you can always capture dynamic, richly expressed shots with wide perspective.
Special moments deserve special attention
Capturing those special moments - whether it's your child's first birthday, a family Christmas, spectacular sceneries on holiday or simply a picture of your loved one ? are priceless. Panasonic understands this and is committed to ensuring that whatever your shooting situation, your image will be beautifully captured. Having successfully incorporated Mega Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) into its entire line-up, Panasonic has gone one step further with the 2007 models with the introduction of Intelligent ISO. A common cause of blurry images is the motion blur that can occur when a subject moves as the shot is being taken ? particularly common when taking pictures of sports or young children for example. This is where Intelligent ISO Control comes in to its own. This system detects whether the subject is moving and, as necessary raises the ISO setting and shutter speed according to how fast the subject is moving and the light conditions. This happens automatically, so you can effortlessly shoot without the need to adjust the settings every time the conditions change.
Panasonic Lumix offers solutions for both major causes of blurred images ? O.I.S when you are moving, and Intelligent ISO Control when the subject is moving. Thanks to Panasonic, you can now take clear and beautiful images in almost all situations.
The power of the Venus Engine III engine
The DMC-TZ2 and DMC-TZ3 boast Panasonic?s advance image processing Venus Engine III, offering the ability to take 300 pictures (270 for the DMC-TZ3) on a single charge. The TZ3 allows unlimited consecutive shooting up to the capacity of the 12.7MB built-in memory or the SD memory card. This engine, the brain of a digital camera, boasts outstanding response time with a 0.006 second shutter release time (the time taken between pressing the button on the camera and the photo being taken) and a shutter interval of approximately 0.5 seconds , thus enabling easy capture of spur-of-the- moment shots. In the burst shooting mode, it is possible to shoot at three frames per second in full resolution . Both models also allow unlimited consecutive shooting - so you can continue taking shots until the SDHC/SD memory card is full.
Noise reduction is also greatly improved, with picture noise removed in stages during image processing. Critical noise is analysed, and chromatic and luminance noise are reduced separately. The chromatic noise, which has greater effect on picture quality, is then selectively suppressed, resulting in clearer images.
Bright and beautiful motion pictures Not only can you capture beautiful still images ? these new models also record stunning wide aspect VGA (848 x 480) motion images at 30 frames per second. This enables you to view them on a widescreen television in a true widescreen aspect ratio. Perfect for skiing holidays for example you can showcase your skiing talents in full 16:9 glory on your widescreen television to your family and friends.
The DMC-TZ3 also offers an exceptional function that lets you select and display thumbnails of nine sequential frames from a motion image. This would be useful, for example, to analyse the way you swing a golf club or tennis racquet.
The perfect travel companion boasting 20 scene modes
The Lumix TZ2 and TZ3?s 20 scene modes allow you to effectively capture your travelling experience, wherever you go. The ?aerial? mode assists with shooting through aeroplane windows, and once you reach your destination, the new ?beach? mode is ideal for taking photos in strong sunlight. Used with a separately available marine case boasting a water-resistance of up to 40m deep, the ?underwater? mode helps produce spectacular underwater shots, even at depths where there is no sunlight.

Panasonic DMC LZ6 Digital Camera
Adding to its award winning Lumix range of cameras, Panasonic is pleased to introduce the 7.2 megapixel DMC-LZ6 and DMC-LZ7. Incorporating Panasonic's ever popular and indispensable Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S), 6x optical zoom lens and convenient AA battery operation, these are the perfect compact cameras to easily take clear, beautiful pictures.
Zoom in with the 6x Optical Zoom
The Lumix DMC-LZ7 and DMC-LZ6 are equipped with a 7.2 megapixel CCD and a Lumix DC VARIO lens featuring a 6x optical zoom (equivalent to 37mm to 222mm on a 35mm film camera) - among the most powerful available in this class. This 6x zoom captures and magnifies subjects located in the distance that cannot be captured by the standard 3x zoom featured in most compact cameras. To capture those special shots even further in the distance, the 6x zoom ratio can also be extended up to 9x in 3.0 Megapixel image recording mode thanks to the Extra Optical Zoom function with minimal deterioration. By using the central part of the CCD, this zooming function extends to a remarkable 36x, when combined with digital zoom, allowing you to easily capture and magnify subjects in distant locations. The Easy Zoom feature shifts the lens instantly to full 6x zoom power at the touch of a dedicated button, with a second touch, the lens is shifted to 9x by activating the Extra Optical Zoom funtion .
Intelligent ISO Control and Mega O.I.S for Clear, Beautiful, Blur-Free Images
Panasonic is the first manufacturer to have successfully incorporated Optical Image Stabiliser (OIS) into its compact cameras ? a feature strongly appreciated worldwide and now considered to be a standard requirement of photography. O.I.S minimizes the jitter from shaky hands that causes many photos to look blurred by shifting the O.I.S lens unit to keep the optical axis aligned straight against the CCD, ensuring images are captured with supreme clarity and sharpness.
While hand-shake is the single biggest cause of blurry images, it is not the only one. Another problem is the motion blur that can occur when a subject moves as the shot is being taken - particularly common when taking pictures of sports or young children for example. This is where Intelligent ISO Control comes into its own. This system detects whether the subject is moving and, as necessary raises the ISO setting and shutter speed according to how fast the subject is moving and the light conditions. This happens automatically, so you can effortlessly shoot without the need to adjust the settings every time the conditions change.
Panasonic Lumix offers solutions for both major causes of blurred images - O.I.S when you are moving, and Intelligent ISO Control when the subject is moving. Thanks to Panasonic, you can now take clear and beautiful images in even the trickiest situations.
High Performance Venus Engine III
The DMC-LZ7 and DMC-LZ6 feature Panasonic's Venus Engine III, an advanced image processing engine that can record at a sensitivity setting as high as ISO 1250 at full resolution. This engine brings the type of technology you find in a higher end camera to beginners. Noise reduction is also greatly improved, with picture noise removed in stages during image processing. Critical noise is analysed, and chromatic and luminance noise are reduced separately. The chromatic noise, which has greater effect on picture quality, is then selectively suppressed, resulting in clearer images.
These new Lumix models feature an outstanding release time lag of just 0.005 seconds so the time taken between you pressing the button on the camera and the picture being taken is super fast helping you to capture spontaneous moments. In addition, the unlimited consecutive shooting function allows you to take photos in succession up to the capacity of the memory card or built-in memory.
LCD ensures effortless playback
The DMC-LZ7 is distinguished by a large, bright 2.5 inch LCD (2.0 inch for the LZ6) for comfortable viewing while monitoring shots and playing back the results. The mixed pixel readout method used by the CCD automatically increases the brightness of the live image of the LCD, making it much easier to shoot in low lighting.
To further add to their appeal, the LZ7 and LZ6 feature the High Angle LCD function, which makes the LCD display extremely easy to view from below, for example, when holding the camera up high to take pictures over a crowd.
Inherently easy to use
Both the LZ7 and LZ6 offer a range of features that enhance usability and add convenience. For example, the new Quick Setting function lets you quickly and easily access and set the functions most often used. Additionally, when travelling you can stamp the day of the trip on the photos you take - ensuring your album can easily be prepared in chronological order. As with all Lumix models, the LZ7 and LZ6 feature Panasonic's unique Baby Mode, which allows you to set the birthday of two children so the relevant child's age at the time of image capture is automatically recorded onto the photo. Perfect for holding on even closer to the precious moments in your child's lives.
To futher add to their appeal, the LZ7 and LZ6 feature approximately 27MB of built-in memory, which can save the day should you happen to fill up or forget your memory card. They also accept large-capacity SDHC memory cards, giving users more flexibility in shooting and recording.
To ensure convenience and user-friendliness, the DMC-LZ6 and DMC-LZ7 run on 2 AA batteries. With the included Panasonic OXYRIDE AA batteries, you can take up to 260 photos CIPA Standard (250 for DMC-LZ7) that's over 37 images per day on a weeks holiday - happy snappy! The DMC-LZ7 and DMC-LZ6 are available from March 2007.
